Lounge corner

There’s an ugly corner of my lounge, which I can’t seem to spruce up! There’s a fitted cabinet in that corner, but it looks awfully bare.

There’s also a plug point right next to it, so I don’t want to put a plant in the corner, just in case.

I really don’t know what to do with the space…

Any ideas please?

You should still be able to access the plug if you put a plant there.
I put a really big ikea fake plant in a dead corner and it transformed the room

KittenCatt · 08/10/2023 09:53

I was more concerned about accidentally spraying water onto the socket whilst watering the plant.

Though getting a fake plant is a fantastic idea - thank you!

Pop a childproof cover on and add a live plant.

@KittenCatt can we have a pic of the corner and the cabinet? cabinet might need a lick of paint or some styling of the shelves maybe?

KittenCatt · 08/10/2023 10:14

Here it is. I hate the cupboards, so we’re going to replace them soon.

hi @KittenCatt that space is crying out for plants and a wicker basket. Wicker basket on top for any crap that probably accumulates there and a big plant in front of the sockets especially if the cupboard isn't used much? depending on what's inside could you take the doors off and paint it inside and then add 4 baskets in there if there are shelves? can you tell I love baskets??😂

KittenCatt · 08/10/2023 11:41

@itsmeagainagain the cupboard contains our fuse box, so we rarely use it. I actually have a wicker basket, so I’ve taken your advice!

I don’t have a large plant yet, but once I get one, I’ll place it behind the wicker basket. Thank you 😊

I'm losing the plot - with the combination of username and not reading the post properly, I read this as 'what that space is crying out for is a kitten in a wicker basket'...!

could you paint the cupboard to match the wall colour and then replace the current knobs with some that are a bit more of a statement (brass maybe?) then add agree a nice plant. Snake plants are pretty indestructible and will hide the sockets and need v little watering

Playaville · 09/10/2023 07:36

I think the cupboard looks ok, maybe change the handles. Can you relocate the plug socket?

Calico69 · 09/10/2023 13:31

How about an artificial plant or storage basket for blankets or throws to hide the sockets? I got a great artificial plant and basket from this online shop to cover an ugly phone socket and cables https://nessainteriors.co.uk. Or you could get an extendable radiator cover to go over both your radiator and sockets?

If you rarely need to get to the cupboard how about a little comfy chair, and a nice lamp/plant on top of the cupboard.

IdealisticCynic · 09/10/2023 16:24

I like a PP’s suggestion of a comfy chair. You could put a standing reading lamp over it, put books on the top of the cupboard and turn it into a little reading nook.

KittenCatt · 09/10/2023 20:51

I love the idea of a reading nook! Unfortunately we don’t have the space as there’s a scratch post right next to it. If we had more space, I’d definitely go for that idea.
