Warming up a pale green living room for Winter

We recently moved and have painted our living room a lovely pale sage green. Sofas and armchair various shades of grey, and at the moment we have pale wooden blinds, pale wood furniture. It's a small room, and is lovely in the Summer but feels 'cold' and a bit bare now the light has changed.

Any tips for warming it up? I've just randomly bought a rust/orange cushion in the hope that this might help, so going along those colour lines!!

Tartan cushions in those colours? I’ve just bought two bunches of roses in red and orange from Tesco and they look lovely in my room.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 02/10/2023 16:26

Yes I think flowers and cushions are the way to go!!

The best thing would be a roaring fire, but obviously not every room has one.
You could put in a few scented candles to create a display which gives the illusion of a warm fire, and also make the place smell nice.

What about some lovely soft throws in different autumn shades to go with your cushions, and a plush rug on the floor that feels warm underfoot.

Also, in terms of lighting - could you invest in a lamp with a warmer glow that you use during the winter months, or failing that change out the bulbs to a warmer hue.

Can you tell I love this time of year :-)

I've got a few lilac bits that warm up my grey room, like a patterned throw and cushions. A soft pinky lilac could work with grey and green.

Ooh great ideas!! We've inherited an open fire, but because I have asthma we've had to have it blocked off, but still looks like a fully functional fireplace...
I'm veering towards the more rusty oranges end of the colour spectrum.
Throws are a good idea too!

Candles and lots of dark green plants.

In our old flat, we had the same sort of colour (I think). Dark reds, cushions, lamps rugs go surprisingly well. I know it’s a bit vintagey, but it works with modern interiors too, as on the opposite side of the colour wheel.

Big mirrors too, as reflect light in the day and lamp light at night for cosiness

Kilim cushions (my latest enthusiasm). You'd be able to get some gorgeous ones in 'your' colours and Etsy have some very good sellers.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 02/10/2023 21:56

@toenails - yes the orange one I’ve bought is a bit like a kilim style

Terracotta is trending as one of the colours of the year so that should be easy enough to get a warmer vibe going. Think I saw some nice cotton throws in sainsbos so it’s not a huge investment. A lot of “layers” at warmth as does texture
