I'm stuck on a colour scheme

We're remodelling and will have a small living room with NE facing window. The front door opens into the room too.

We've got an additional family room at the back of the house, so this will purely be for lounging, watching tv and reading. I suspect it'll only be used by me because the back room will have a far larger tv and easier access to snacks.

We've got a fabulous royal blue sofa. Wooden floor. Wooden sideboard and bookcase.

I'd love mauve on the walls - is that too dark? And can I introduce a third, brighter colour to lighten the space? Or should i somehow squeeze some white or light grey in?

I'm really stuck. I don't want a 'cold' room. I want a cosy, cottagy sanctuary. But not too dark.

Any ideas?

How about a golden/mustardy deep yellow? That would warm the room up without being gloomy, and really make your blue sofa pop against it.

Love a dark forest green room myself- just one wall will do it. Royal blue could look nice with it

Cosy cottage sanctuary is definitely a vibe!

With a royal blue sofa, I imagine white cornices and fairly light walls (maybe a deep beige or light mushroom colour) with antique brass frames, light and dark mixed wood furniture / fireplace and a chequered footstool sort of thing! Lots of mixed textures to create that cosy sort of feel.

Sims Hilditch did something similar like this.

I'm loving some of these looks. I lack imagination, but want to break out of the magnolia walls and matching curtains/cushions I tend to go with.

DH loves anything beige or brown. Or anything 'practical' as he puts it. I'm desperate to be impractical!

Mustard would be a good accent colour. I also love forest green and have that in my bedroom.

I recommend looking at Alison Gee’s website or Instagram as she creates complementary colour schemes from her fabrics (all of which are stunning): https://instagram.com/alisongeeartanddesign?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
