Wall colours to go with navy curtains

Hi everyone!

My 17 yr old DS is getting his room redecorated soon as it needs to be a bit more grown up. He's got navy curtains and a blue desk (sounds horrid, but its actually lovely - dark navy). What colour do I paint the walls? Obviously a lighter blue would look nice but it also channels "little boy" which he doesn't want. I've tested a magnolia which got a firm nope. And he's not up for an orange wall which I thought might be a fun contrast. Any thoughts? I'm not very good with colours so I get my inspo from other people who are.

Thank you.

Green is great with navy - loads of options with greens, farrow and ball green smoke is a lovely colour but you may not want to go that dark. I also love Bancha but again that is quite dark. Looks fabulous with navy though and definitely hits the ‘grown up’ brief.
I get farrow and ball colours mixed up, I’ve never actually used farrow and ball paint - can’t bring myself to spend that much on paint!

Frenchic also do wall paints now and they have a lovely range of colours, might be worth a look of you have a local stockist.

Would stay away from a lighter blue, think it would look quite drab and cold

I would go with a green, either pale or a strong shade.

Ds (18) has navy curtains (chrome pole), cream walls & grey carpet. Dark wooden unit & light grey desk. Light grey headboard.
Bedding sets used are pale blue , grey & navy.

South facing room. Very calm.

We have a really light sagey/olive green in our bedroom with one very dark navy wall. It’s lovely and feels very peaceful.

I’d go for sage

My son has two cream walls, a navy wall and one wall papered in a kind of greige wood plank effect wallpaper. It sounds a bit drab but it looks lovely 😊

I like lilac with navy.

Thank you so much everyone. Dunelm sage paint has gone on today and it is lovely! It is strange - it looks very grey when I try and take a photo, but the colour "in real life" is beautiful - very grown up and relaxing which is exactly what we wanted.

Sounds lovely. Some touches of terracotta (a lamp maybe) might look good with your colour scheme.

Sage green
