Hello!

New kitchen being fitted very soon, it's black and gold.

We are thinking of a mural on one wall but would like help please! Ive never papered a room in my life, so am feeling a little nervous, how difficult are they to apply? Also, unsure where to purchase from? There's a site called uwalls that have lovely design but a few dodgy trustpilot reviews. Also, what kind of colour to go for, we are thinking marble greens with gold to tie it in.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I love pretty much every mural by Graham and Brown www.grahambrown.com/uk/

The cheaper murals tend to be difficult to hang because they don't have the weight of more expensive paper. I still wouldn't want to attempt it myself with a mural. Imagine a middle panel going wrong? You'd be stuck waiting for a replacement.

To be honest I think I'll attempt bedroom first to practice then the kitchen.

Just a thought, have you watched Dream Kitchens and Bathrooms on channel 5? It's on their catch up thing. There was a woman who did a black kitchen that was stunning. It was episode 2 of season 1.

To be honest I'd prefer plain walls but dh adamant on a mural on one wall 🙄

You could live with the kitchen and no mural and wait a bit.....

We are having a radiator put on the wall that dh wants the mural so it's got to be done before the radiator goes on in a few weeks. That's the other thing, the radiator will cover the mural and there's also a door on the same wall which will cut into the mural too.

Rebelwalls is great - they will print to the exact size of your wall. A mural is actually relatively easy to hang. It comes on a roll with the lines showing where to cut. It's paste the wall, and Rebellealls uses thick paper, so shouldn't shrink much, so if you have a steady hand, it should be doable. You should paper the wall first with liningpsper, though, horizontal. You can practice with the lining paper.

LemonFrosting · 21/09/2023 08:51

Thank you for this! Can I ask why does the lining paper have to be horizontal please?

Every decorator says so and they print it on the instructions. The lining paper is there to smooth out the wall and you don't want the edge of the wall paper on top of the edge of the lining paper, then your wallpaper would easily peel/you see an even more profound gap between each roll, if that makes sense.
