Are there actually any decent sofa shops??

We need a new sofa, don't want to order online as want to sit and try. We've been to the usual places - DFS, sofology etc. All of them seem to get bad reviews - not being delivered on time etc. I k ow you're more than likely to get a bad review than a good one, but are there actually any decent ones out there, without going to a bespoke shop and paying £££??

We have bought multiple items from Loaf and have never been disappointed. They have multiple showrooms to try their products and their customer service is top notch. We just moved house and just bought another sofa and bed from them. Couldn’t fault it

Mines from barker and stone house it’s lovely and still going strong after 6 years

gogomoto · 11/09/2023 19:27

I've bought from DD's, Harvey's and scs. All no problems at all. The sofas are generally made to order so they do have fairly long lead times, there was a specific issue with the foam a while back but haven't heard of problems since.

Alternatively buy off the shelf eg ikea

Sofas and stuff make all their sofas in the UK. They regularly sell ex display sofas and chairs via a mailing list. We got our sofa for half the usual price and it is in perfect condition.

Guavafish1 · 13/09/2023 22:44

ikea

We ordered a sofa from DFS at the beginning of August - it's due to be delivered next week, time will tell what it's like etc!

smooththecat · 13/09/2023 23:10

Not really, no. There are places but they sell things for far above what most people could or would pay now.

Stormtrooper45 · 13/09/2023 23:23

Sofa sofa. Hugely recommend, great comfy amazing value sofas, wonderful customer service and the sofas are made in the UK. Im
not prone to hyperbole or recommending but Sofa Sofa were genuinely impressive in all fronts!

Yes - Barker and Stonehouse are great.

Ikea every time. Theirs have lasted well over 10 years for us and they're more reasonably priced than any of the sofa shops round here.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 14/09/2023 12:03

Another vote for SofaSofa. They only have one showroom, in south Wales, but they will do a virtual showroom tour and have a 21 day guarantee with a full refund if it doesn't suit.

When my parents were looking for a new sofa we visited dozens of shops. Most were hard and uncomfortable.
I loved my Ikea sofa, it was so comfortable and easy to keep clean

Devilsmommy · 14/09/2023 12:12

I ordered sofas online from SCS and they were here in 4 weeks when we were told 4-6 weeks

TooTiredToType77 · 14/09/2023 12:29

Love Your Home. Only one showroom in Farnham but very good range, very good quality, huge choice of fabrics and able to make to any size

Bumblebee112 · 14/09/2023 12:32

We bought from Sofa.com (think they have 6 or 7 showrooms) and haven’t been disappointed. A solid 2 years of use so far with young DC who are not gentle with it and it’s still looking fab!

KnittedCardi · 14/09/2023 12:35

We have recently upgraded a couple of ours. Loaf and Ikea. A magnitude of difference in price, but service and delivery from both were perfect.

IslandsInTheSunshine · 18/09/2023 11:38

It's also about what you want. eg Ikea is just not my style. I prefer traditional verging on modern-ish.

IMO Ikea is for 'first time home owners' for a lot of stuff, where you intend to replace. I'll be buying our 3rd sofa in over 30 years and most have lasted 10+ years and only replaced as the covers were past it (loose covers , remade for each.)

They have a little show area in Frasers departments store where I live. Their chesterfield sofa (Patrick) was unbelievably comfy compared to others I tried. They also had a whole wall filled with samples of every fabric they do. Sadly out of my budget so had to settle on Oak Furniture Land (despite the awful reviews..). I'm probably going to dream of their sofa for years.

MissionImpossible3 · 18/09/2023 17:50

Definitely Next - looked everywhere else and found exactly what I wanted there

@ButterMyParsnip I love the Patrick 😍 that was actually my first choice but DH didn’t like it 🙄😅 And I spent so much time at the fabric wall I didn’t even know what I was looking at any more 🤣 We went for the Isla 3 seater and large armchairs. We bought on a fab deal last year and ended up with about 20-25% off our order if I remember rightly! We had already picked one in DFS and I persuaded DH to go to Sofa.com for a look knowing it was well over our budget and I was just teasing myself 😅 and actually, when we priced it with the offer it only worked out about £400 more than we were going to be paying at DFS!!
Their delivery time and updates were great, and I couldn’t fault their customer service at all!

RichardArmitagesWife · 19/09/2023 09:59

SCS built quality is dreadful, avoid them like the plague.

IKEA is surprisingly good for the price

Ducksinthebath · 19/09/2023 13:15

Willow & Hall have been very good for me, both in terms of quality and customer service.

Sofology not so much. Really bad service and quality wasn't great.

Mine is Ikea and it's 12 years old with the only wear being some scratches from our cat when she was a kitten.
Not sure what traditional but modern is but ours is the Ektorp sofa. Not first time home owners at all
