Please tell me about marble hallway tiles! 🏠

We have a Victorian terrace and the entrance way and hall way is currently ‘click and clack’ laminate. It’s been horrendously laid, gaps at the wall, I hate it.

We did some investigating and directly under the laminate appears to be painted floorboards.

We would love to have a simple checkerboard pattern using marble tiles. We saw it on a home renovation programme recently and it looked amazing!

The hallway is an S shape and we’ve found the house is does tend to shift with the seasons slightly, if that changes anything.

Is there anything we should be aware of using marble tiles?

Is the floor completely level? If not you may need to take up the floorboards and lay chipboard type stuff over sister joists (which is a bit of shame). Even then, Victorian houses are wonky so the floor may still creek and bounce a little if the tiles aren't laid directly onto a concrete floor.
Could you paint a checkerboard pattern onto the floorboards? I've seen this done quite effectively

Checkered marble tiles are so beautiful! You may have to get a flooring company round to have a look, they can usually find a way around most issues. But if not neverwakeasleepingbaby’s idea is a great one, if you ever watched Million Dollar Decorators on Netflix, one of the designers on there Mary McDonald does painted floors a lot and they look great.

They are very slippery when wet. Make sure you have a huge inset doormat that everyone has to walk over so the floor stays dry.

LVT like Amtico
might be a good substitute?
