Where should I put my curtains? (pic Inc)

They're 90" drop.

There's a wooden rail on the inside recess of the bay but if I hang them feom there the ledge at the bottom sticks out more than the space at the top.

If I hang it from the outside walls (so the rial is on the green part) they'll be a big gap behind when drawn.

Especially as I'm putting up coving around the top.

I can't decide which to do.

Does it have to be curtains , that looks like a window that needs a blind in the recess to me .

I have a similar issue in a new house we are moving too and I'm going for full length curtains on the outside of the gap if that makes sense. So that way you can't see the gap when they are closed and the curtains won't block the window when open

Excuse the rubbish drawing

I would have a Roman blind in the recess and abandon the curtains.

I took blinds down. I don't like them

Our bay is similar to yours but also with windows on the sides of the bay. We have curtains as per MissCherryCakeyBun's markings which can be closed be we rarely do that. We have vertical blinds in the recess which we close for privacy.

Some neighbours have a bay curtain rail on three sides of the bay but they have sill length curtains.

DameMargaretofChalfont · 31/08/2023 21:05

I wouldn't hang them inside the bay - if you do you'll lose a lot of light/window area when you have the curtains open.

I'd recommend the option of outside the bay.

Have you considered top down bottom up blinds?

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 06/09/2023 22:45

What is it about blinds that you don’t like? Maybe we could help you find a style that would get around that? I’d also go with a Roman blind fitted into the recess

I've put curtains up now and love them.
