Need furniture inspiration for a Victorian home office(!)

It’s a small but cosy room approx 2 x 2.7m

I already have a small desk and a chair but I can’t decide what other furniture I want in there.

A book case, a cabinet, shelves? A side table? (Perhaps four weekends a year the room will be used as a guest room, I have a Jay-Be folding bed for this but it won’t be stored in the room.)

You can’t go wrong with a Kallax as it’s versatile but I really don’t like the modern style. The house is Victorian so I’m open to older styles… any ideas at all really!

I prefer warm colours and gold accents as opposed to black/grey/silver.

Would love some inspiration if anyone has had a similar dilemma?

Have a look at FB marketplace and you might see some vintage shelves/dressers etc that appeal?

I got a great deal for my study from there - perfect for the house

Inbuilt joinery is always lovely, especially in period properties. You would maximise storage by going for floor to ceiling shelves and create a library feel. If you find a local joiner and use softwood and mdf, and some mouldings, it wouldn't cost that much more than IKEA. You can then paint it how you like it.

I am not really sure if what we have would work for you, but DH also really likes English old-fashioned style offices, and his home office has old-fashioned gilded barometers on the wall, and a few really old objects like very old stapler and very old lamp (he doesn't use the stapler, the modern one is in the drawer!). On the wall some old style botanical posters. All of that really adds to the vibe he likes. And I add in tidbits from Zara Home, because their gold and glass vibe fits in really well.

Furniture wise we went second hand + old on everything. We have one IKEA Billy in there and it looks awful with the rest. I'd get a small side table that can be night table for your guests.
