We're about to re-let our rental property. It's a 3 bed semi. A family member has been staying there for the last few years and we decorated it to their taste but want to make it more neutral. What colour walls do you think? Off white? Oatmeal? Not grey!! And what colour carpets for the stairs and upstairs and living room?
The kitchen is mostly white and flows through to the dining room. Both have a new wood floor.
Curious to know what you would do or would prefer as a tenant.

I'd go for neutral colours, depending on the age of the house would depend on Colour too. Best thing regarding carpets is go to your local showroom explain you want good hardwearing carpet that stains are easy to remove from and it's for a rental and they should point you in the direction of what would work.

I live in a new build and it's farrow and ball "all white", it's a slightly off white colour and I love it.

Thanks, Diamonds. I'll look at that colour. Our own house is a sort of off white as well and we really like it.

Neutral - white or off white (or should I say, the dreaded magnolia - though I painted a 1930s hall (not mine) in magnolia a few weeks ago and it actually looked amazing - very light and airy). I’d go for a beige hardwearing carpet that’s easy to clean or even better, can you match the flooring throughout the house?

As a renter, I would prefer hard flooring to carpet in the living room. It’s more hard wearing and far easier to clean. Neutral walls is always better I find. I ‘jazz up’ the walls with art or photos.

Both our home and our rental are painted with Timeless by Dulux - a lovely creamy off-white.

We go with a very light off white/cream which can be used for ceilings as well - it saves time cutting in. The paint is scrubbable which is expensive but should mean less need for repainting. Light ish beige carpets, probably on the mushroom colour side. Works well with most colour schemes.
