What can I do with this fugly gas fire?

So I have this in my living room. It is a "living flame" gas fire, and I am sick of it. Not sure what options I have. It has been made secure by a gas engineer who turned off the supply as I don't use it and wanted it to be safe.

Ideally I would love a real fire, but there is no chimney, only a flue. There is no hearth, and it is an ajoining wall to my neighbour, so probably my options are limited.

Any ideas?

moana1234 yes, that's the type of thing I like.

Get an inset one that is just a piece of glass flush to the wall with the fire sat behind. Much simpler / more modern looking and some of the new ones are quite efficient.
