My thoughts were that I wanted my living room to be cosy / cottagey so I was going for Wallpaper. I also wanted patterned curtains and colourful cushions etc as my floor is wood and sofa brown. Now I can’t seem to make anything work. Any curtain fabric I’ve found just doesn’t seem right.
can any clever people suggest anything ? I think I’ve done too much overthinking with this now !
likely going to paint the fire surround but can’t change sofa.
pic of the paper and the room.

Have you already bought the wallpaper? I struggle to see what colour it is. First I thought the stars were sage, but now think it's beige. Neutral wallpapers are rather surprisingly tricky to work with. You either pick a beige/creame for your fabrics for a coherent but a bit blah look, or you choose a colour that looks a bit disconnected in the end. The easiest way is to choose a wallpaper with at least 1 'proper' colour, and then you can match that colour to fabrics - either choosing the same colour, the same colour in a different tone (lighter, darker), or a complementary colour.

I would paint the wall with the chimney and alcoves , a sage green such as F&B Pigeon or similar.
I would then have the wallpaper on the 3 other walls and have a sagey coloured velvet curtain to make it cosy.

And maybe a picture rail?

Are there any inspiration looks you’ve found? For a cosy cottagey field maybe you need to go much bolder with the wallpaper choice - the one you’ve chosen is pretty but very subtle and it’s still leaving you a lot of work to do decor-wise.

Thankyou some good ideas 🙂the wallpaper is cream with slightly darker stars and I also have samples of it in stone and grey with white stars.
I was worried about putting something all over that was going to look too much but then it doesn’t seem enough for the chimney breast. I was trying to do something different than a feature wall which is what I had before but have ended up tying myself in knots and driving. Myself mad with it 😂
it’s a good problem to have though I’m not really complaining.
