Which floor?

We have recently bought a house, and I am having trouble with the colours for the living room. It is a complete blank slate, we need new everything.

We have painted all walls white apart from one wall which is dark green with a black cast iron fireplace. We will be getting a dark brown chesterfield sofa, and the TV stand is also dark brown wood but a different shade to the sofa. Our original plan was to get dark floors, however we have heard about how they show lots of dust and also that it would just make the room too dark and oppressive with all of the other dark colours, even though most of the walls are white.

We have had a look at some lighter floors and have samples but I'm struggling to work out whether lighter floors will look right. I feel like they give beachy vibes. But then again I feel like you can't really go wrong with lighter floors as most things will look fine against them. With darker floors all of the different dark browns might clash? Or may be even too matchy matchy? But then I just feel like a light floor fits in with more of a Scandinavian vibe? Will it go with the style of our living room. I have so many floor samples here and I'm sick of thinking about it, it's giving me a headache.

I haven't got a very good imagination so I just can't picture which one will look best. Opinions welcome!

I moved in to a house with walnut laminate and innitially didn't like it being so dark. However, it grew on me and five years on,I love it. I have cream walls and duck egg sort of colour sofas and cream Laura Ashley old furniture. I did have a rug but have removed it and the room just flows into the hall way and dining room.
It doesnt seem to show the dirt, unless you have a light coloured cat or dog I suppose.

I think dark floors will look better with your other items. Dark doesn't need to look oppressive, it can look comfy, relaxing, warm.
All floors get dirty, but as long as it is not black or white gloss, it's all manageable. You might also like to get an area rug, for comfort and to break up 'the darkness'. I think it would look even better if you extended your feature wall green around the room, or to at least 2 walls, it will feel much better, harmonious and cohesive.

Thank you both!

We did end up going for the darker floor and will be ordering a rug too 😀 I think this is the right choice and the one that I was leaning more towards from the beginning anyway, so it's good to know that you agree
