Artist recommendations

I’m looking for some recommendations for artists as I want to fill some of the blank walls in my house. Particularly affordable art, probably prints realistically as but maybe original for something super special.

I realise art is very personal and subjective so I haven’t described my taste or preferred genre as really I love discovering all sorts of new art, but also a thought it would be a nice idea to start a thread where other people can also recommend and discover new artists - a sort of mumsnet art directory if you like.

Thanks for the suggestions - both artists I’d never heard of before. Love the colours in Barbara Storey and her quirky portraits!

look on ArtFinder - it is a website that sells lots of artists (I know a few) with all sorts of good things.

mmm... nice idea. I am keen on Octavia Milner, Sandra Millar, and Martin Proctor. Google them, and you will find their websites/instagram accounts/galleries that sell them. Wonderful colour palettes, strong, distinctive styles, you can buy paintings if you're feeling more flush, or prints or drawings if (like me, most of the time) you're trying to put something nice and individual on your walls without breaking the bank.

We love Danny Abrahams. He's a very nice person too (we met him this year).

When I can afford to, I’m treating myself to something by Lucy Powell. Obviously completely subjective to taste, but I just love her palette and style and I would love one in my home

Try your local art school graduation show, usually held late spring. Lots of different styles and a great way to find emerging artists.

If you want to see more of a range there are some great art and craft fairs around. In the Midlands Melbourne Festival is coming up and is fabulous for seeing a range of art being sold direct.
