Office chair that is not huge and ugly

I am struggling to sit at my desk because of back and neck issues, i have a pretty standard ikea desk chair with a support cushion thing, but i need something better. Problem is all the office chairs i see are huge and plastic and ugly. My desk is in our sitting room so it really needs to be relatively compact and nice looking.

Has anyone found anything that is ergonomic/back friendly and nice looking?

I've got a Herman Miller Sayl office chair which I bought in a sale - not cheap but very pretty (and comfortable!).

Watching as I’d like the same. Ideally I’d like one made of wood or tan leather or fabric rather than plastic. But all the ergonomic ones seem to be plastic.

@Heurgh the prices ££££££!

As I say, I bought it in a sale! And i wfh so it was an expensable purchase.

There are several websites that resell office furniture after businesses move or go bust - worth a look for bargain ergonomic chairs, etc.

For my kid's desks I got upholstered swivel chairs from daals.com. Depending on your style, they do these scallop shaped swivel chairs or traditional button back swifel chairs, upholstered in velvet or linen. Depending on the model, they are around 100 quid. They were more substantial and comfortable than I'd dared to hope, I now often seek in to do my admin when they are at school.

Oh sorry, daals.co.uk

Manomano also has a large selection of upholstered chairs and the more functional mesh type/plastic chairs. I must admit I try and ban everything too office/mash contortion looking from our living spaces. Poor dh doesn't have the best back either and his office even sent him his office chair to work from home. The office chair is still in the loft and dh sits for 10 hours/day on a rickety gustavian dining chair which I still haven't had restored. But he is actually fine, luckily gir me, as he got himself a gel cushion with a hole at the back, it's specially designed for people with lower back/spine injuries, and it makes it really comfy for him.
