Recommendations for paint and roller brands would be much appreciated.

Just water down any matt paint and get it on the ceiling. It can be as cheap as you can get. A couple of costs of that and then use a decent paint for the top coats.

I enjoy painting and have painted every room of three properties. But ceilings are tedious and painful and boring to do. Especially with a mist coat to do too. I'd pay someone to do it.

I'm a teacher on holidays now. This is my moment to shine, so I'm saving my pennies and toning my arms into the bargain.

Just water down any matt paint and get it on the ceiling - No, not all brands can be watered down, Valspar for example.

@Freshair1 I’ve actually found it less dear to buy an actual mist coat, rather than watering down.

When I started painting our place (all rooms fresh plaster) a year ago I was doing a water down and first two coats in a Dulux Trade colour match to Little Greene. DY is now virtually the same price as LG now 😮‍💨 Won’t touch Valspar.

Do you have a Brewers near you? They do 20% off first purchase when you sign up for their newsletter, so well worth getting it all at once! Brushes and rollers wise I’m partial to Harris.
