Appeared shortly after painting so I have four walls that look like they have chicken pox I'm near to crying here it took me all day and that was the first coat and it will need another two coats but with do I do about the bubbles they are everywhere!!

I've painted many times over the years and I've never seen this before, some of the bubbles have popped and left a deflated bubble and the rest and there are loads!are full on bubbles
Help! Please I'm losing the will here what can I do it looks an entire mess and a waste of my time! And to top it off a big black fast spider has come in the window and is hiding out behind the radiator 😱

Too warm to paint maybe

Roller wet? Could be water has reacted

What was on the walls before? If fresh plaster, you need to do a watered down coat first. Or was it covered in some kind of coating thstvis stopping the paint sticking?

pippapipps · 28/06/2023 22:36

@TheIsleOfTheLost just repainted over the last coat of paint done about 5 years ago, I'd dusted the wall down a few days ago other than that the wall was clean and good to go so I've no idea what happened

Have you used silk paint over Matt?

InTheGardenShed · 28/06/2023 22:41

I think it's the heat and moisture combination to be honest.

FawnDrench · 28/06/2023 22:42

Did you paint over silk emulsion?
This would produce the bubbles.

InTheGardenShed · 28/06/2023 22:46

You would need to a braid the surface of painting over silk

pippapipps · 28/06/2023 23:12

I am using Matt paint but not sure if it was silk paint used before? It didn't particularly have a sheen before

This happens when you do Matt over silk or the opposite. Sand lightly to remove the bubbles and paint again. My whole house did this

@HashBrownandBeans your name is making me hungry 😂
Poor you how did you cope having to redo the whole house what a nightmare
Can I paint again with roller once I sand out the bubbles? There are so many bubbles on every wall 😱 I'm not looking forward to it ..thanks for help

I've had this recently, it's the first time I've ever experienced it. I'm not sure if it's due to whatever was on the wall before I painted it, we only moved in last year so we've only just started decorating this hallway I could see it already had matt paint so I used a matt paint too but in a different shade, then bubbles started appearing while I was painting, I tried a roller and a brush, even bought a different tin of paint incase the first one was faulty. In the end I waited for the walls to fully dry, then lightly sanded over the bubbles then carefully filled in each bit with a small paint brush so as not to go over the wrong bit or I just ended up with more bubbles. It took me ages to sand and repaint each bubble but looks better than it did.

Thankfully I was only doing one room at a time so didn’t feel like such a nightmare 🤣 It should only happen the once if you stick to Matt paint now.
