We need to repaint the house and new carpets. Which do we do first?

Paint first or you risk paint splashes

Paint then carpets. Unless you like the thought of spotty carpets.

Ah, I thought the other way around because I thought they put cloth down to protect the carpets!? I thought carpets first because they might ruin the paint job when putting down the carpets and moving furniture etc?

Paint first, new carpets second.

Lift old carpets, paint, wait 3 days, fit new carpets.

Anything else and you'll have either ruined skirts, obvious seams of previous color, or ruined carpets.

Paint first, we have just had several rooms redecorated and flooring is due next week, it made the decorating so much easier as they could do skirting boards, doors etc without carpet being in the way, not worry about splashes. The decorators have left all the tins of paint so we can touch up any damage caused when we move furniture.

How does it make sense to lay carpet before painting?
