Hi
After a bit of advice about decorating. We've lived in our house for 5 years now with curtains in the bedroom that we inherited. They are going to cost about £250-500 to replace (MASSIVE window) but I've had enough now.
I have the below bedding, how on earth do I get curtains that go with this??
I will also paint the walls but I think that'll be down to what curtains I get... Right?!
I have no clue on this type of thing.
Wwyd?

Bedding and paint is really cheap - curtains are not. Are you sure you can get ready made ones for £500 if it's a massive massive window? You definitely don't need to get some made?

I would start by choosing curtains you love and build everything else around them. So forget about the bedding for now.

Do you want plain or patterned? Bold or neutral?

If redecorating a room I would always start with the most expensive item first. Like the sofa in a living room, which will come in only 10 colours and cost hundreds if not thousands. Paint comes in 56738 colours and is comparatively cheap.

Love that image…I would have curtains the same colour as the walls

What colours do you like? I assume that you have more than one bedding set, so the curtains don’t have to match exactly?

Gentlydoesit2 · 10/06/2023 09:26

Thanks for your reply, yes that's about £500 for made to measure. Maybe plain and bold just because I struggle to imagine patterns working together (ie curtains and bedding) but maybe plain would look dull?!

Thanks for your reply, I do have more than one bedding set but this is the most colourful and my preferred one so the one I thought I should work around 😄

White wooden blinds would be my choice. Classic and go with any colour scheme, patterns etc.

Plain curtains always. £500 sounds really cheap for made to measure curtains. If you’re having curtains made then go for pinch pleat at the top. They hang far better than other pleats and look smarter. Personally I would go for a Roman blind. I did my daughters in a dark grey velvet which looks great and goes with everything but a navy or a jewel colour would work well. You can change bedding and accessories easily if you go for a block colour curtain

TopoPizza · 10/06/2023 09:45

Yes, I think plain navy and that makes it much easier to match up with new duvet covers, as they are the things you’ll change most. You don’t want to have to fork out for new curtains every time you get new bedsets, given the size of window/cost etc. Neutral floors/furniture/curtains means you can go mad with the bed/cushions etc without costing a fortune each time.

We paid 400pounds for 200cm x 280cm made to measure from Curtainis2go, with pinch plead, so I'd say 500 pounds is a realistic number for simple plain made to measure curtains. If you are long term committed to your bedding, pick one of the colours from it for your curtains. The blush pink is something readily available from Curtains2go and other places in your price bracket. You could then also paint the walls the same colour.

NellyBarney · 12/06/2023 10:42

Most curtain places incl. Curtains2go have a sale every other week/month, so wait until you save at leat 20% of marked price, you won't be waiting for long.

DickieAttenborough · 12/06/2023 10:43

If you love the bedding, I'd pick one colour from it and match your curtains to that.

TheMurderousGoose · 12/06/2023 10:47

£500 for made to measure curtains for a massive window sounds very cheap indeed.

Davros · 12/06/2023 19:49

I'd get a bedspread

Whatthediddlyfeck · 12/06/2023 20:18

Check Ikea for ready made, I think they’re 300cm long….I used to make all my own curtains and blinds-I can’t make them for what Ikea charge!
