Any opinions on which colour is a better match for Slaked Lime walls? Decorating both North and South facing rooms.

Well we have Johnstones Trade White ceilings and Shirting on the walls and I can’t tell the difference…

So I vote Trade White

I’d go for loft white. Had shirting a number of years ago, but (to me) it ended up looking as though the room looked like paint had gone “grubby”. I often find this with off-whites after a while.

Loft White is a nice white, to me. It looks clean and crisp, but doesn’t have that “glaring” white effect.

We have loft white in a south facing room with a lot of light, it is quite creamy next to gauze and I wish we’d gone for shirting in here. I don’t think it works so well in south facing. We also have f and b all white in a different south facing room which to me is a purer white. (I know you didn’t ask about f and b, but just for context).

You could try slaked lime on the ceiling too? We did this in one of our rooms and I love the seamless effect - wish I'd done it in all the rooms!

Thank you. Did you notice any difference in quality between F&B and LG?

May I ask how much light there is in the room where you have slaked lime on the ceiling? Is the room North or South facing?

Little Greene is definitely preferred quality wise by painters, over F&B.

Interestingly Little Greene’s own website suggests Loft White or Flint with Slaked Lime here you may have seen this already.

Thank you, minipie. I have seen the recommendation on LG website. I tend to follow what they say as otherwise there are so many options to choose from and I just get lost in to all but I had an old Flint sample so I painted sheets of paper in both colours and to my eye Flint seems a bit softer and muted, which I like. It may (and likely will) turn out differently when the whole ceiling is painted. I am doing all the painting myself and don't mind repainting a wall if the colour is not right but I hate painting ceilings so I would like to get it right.

It is south facing tbf and has large windows...

I like painting with both LG and F and B, I’m obviously very amateur but there’s no difference to me (to show how amateur I am the nicest paint I’ve used was Elle paint by Crown, nice and thick and lovely coverage). Little Green also recommended loft white to go with gauze, we spent quite some time in store with them, what they can’t predict is the light in the room and how it will react. We picked ours in winter in a cold light, it’s only in the spring that it has begun to look too warm next to the gauze. Slap lots of samples on pieces of paper and move them around in both day light and artificial light.
