Painting before changing windows

we need to decorate but changing windows is on the cards too (not sure when exactly but at least 1-2 years away). I don’t want to live with plastered unpainted walls for so long, is decorating before changing windows a complete no no? Will the paint work be really damaged or will it be minor touch ups needed? Thanks

You will need to do the window areas again after the windows are replaced... the company that fitted our (national) gouged chunks out of the plaster and scraped the windowsills. I had plenty of hole filling, sanding and repainting to do around every window....

You need to mist coat the plaster anyway, so could do that first maybe if you don't want to fully decorate? We are waiting for windows in six months or so, but painting now. Will just fill holes and repaint the window area afterwards

I had the opposite experience. No visible damage whatsoever. The new frames were thicker so might have covered it up though.

Thanks all. Will prob just have to risk it and touch up any damage. The walls have a plaster coat on but look horrible along with the undecorated woodwork etc so keen to get decorating

You’ll probs my be left with all sorts of holes to patch in and possibly quite big chunks. But only in the window reveals so you could still decorate the rest if the room if you save some paint

*probably

I only had to do minor touch ups butI wouldn't touch a national window chain with a bargepole. I used a local firm and they were really careful and refilled holes etc.

I had my windows done last Autumn, I'm painting the windowsills which were dark stained wood to white gloss as the new windows are white inside.
The wall paintwork doesn't need doing at all.

My friend just had new windows in her house and there was no redecorating required as else was replacing like for like. I had new windows and every window area needed plastered and painting because we were putting in a very different type of window.
