Does affordable linen bedding exist?!

We're about to move house and for the first time will have guest bedrooms - one will have a king or super king size bed (TBC), and the other will have a double bed. We use Piglet in Bed linen for our bedding, which I love – but the cost of buying the same brand for guest bedrooms is way out of my budget. I've been looking for much more affordable bed linens but can't seem to find anything suitable. I want 4 x pillow cases, 1 x flat sheet, 1 x fitted sheet, 1 x duvet cover for each bed. Even the high street brands are either close to the same price as Piglet in Bed linens (Zara Home is £358 each for the bundles), or they only do duvet covers and pillow cases (H&M Home). Does anyone have any ideas for where I can get affordable linen bedding bundles?? I really love the look of linen and would ideally prefer this over cotton – although I'm beginning to doubt it exists, and certainly don't want to be spending £700+ on two sets of linens!! I've already done a lot of googling, so am prepared to start looking at cheaper materials, but wanted to ask here first!

Their own site has sale bundles for £250 for king size.

King of cotton.
It’s used by lots of hotels and the quality of better than our other white company sheets that ended up shredding.
We have the 600tc ones for b and b and they are high quality, reasonable and get washed on high temp a lot.

Try TKMaxx but obviously it's hit and miss.

Soak and sleep sometimes have good sales for French linen bedding.

I did look at the sales on Piglet in Bed. Unfortunately, once you add the flat sheet and 2 extra pillow cases it goes up to £378 for the double (and more for the king)... I do have some rewards in my account which I was hoping to use, but they can't be applied to sale items!

I've got some from la redoute, I shouldn't think it's the same quality as the £300 sets, but it's lasting well (3 years old) and is 100% linen.

My only issue is the king size duvet cover is a European size, so slightly too wide for our quilt. Irritating, but could be fixed in 10 minutes if I was handy with a sewing machine.

@Caspianberg thank you! will look into this!

@purplerainyday thanks! Will keep an eye out - I have got some amazing bargains from TK Maxx with fashion, but didn't think of them for bedding!

@SidekickSylvia thanks! I'm half tempted to wait until November sales to see if I can get something on mega sale, but we're moving in July and I'll have family staying pretty much straight away.. but will check out Soak & Sleep in the meantime!

Agree on La Redoute, ours has been going strong for years. Agree on the sizing also, very annoying

I meant to add that they do superking pillowcases too, we have a superking bed and king size guest bed so I use large pillows. I can vouch for Soak and Sleep quality, they wash well at 30%. I've tried White Company high thread count bedding and been really disappointed.

FrenesiGates · 24/05/2023 10:07

@JofraArchersFastestBall Thank you for the link! I don't think it necessarily needs to be super high quality as it won't get used / washed nearly as much as our bedding. La Redoute looks like they have lots of linens that could work!

We also have super king bed and I'm thinking of getting larger pillows when we move (and moving our smaller pillows onto guest beds) as it always annoys me how much space is around them! It's funny you say that you were disappointed in the White Company – i haven't bought their bedding but I did buy a pricey sheepskin hot water bottle cover that didn't even last one winter! (and it was bought to replace a much cheaper one that had been knocking around for about 10 years!)

Do guest rooms really need expensive bedding? Personally I'd limit the spend and use the money elsewhere ie my own bedroom 🤣

FrenesiGates · 24/05/2023 10:26

@HerMammy haha I'm trying really hard to get the look I want on a serious budget!

I got £266 for king with extra pillowcases. Ditch the flat sheet for guests?!

Sleep & Soak is coming out ahead so far – super king & double bundle for £428 (although it's still much more than I was hoping to spend on guest bedding, so a cheaper cotton set may still win out...!)

Also an option! Although my family is from a country where flat sheets are the norm and my parents still can't get their heads around sleeping without one 😂

I have bought most of my bedding from La Redoute, the linen is excellent, heavyweight and washes brilliantly. Great value.

Ohyoudodoyou · 24/05/2023 10:31

I have a super king sized bed, pillow cases are large from La redoute in the linen range.

TheDogsMother · 24/05/2023 10:32

HomeSense is the home ware part of TK Maxx. I've bought some really nice brands from there and they stock hotel standard white bedding too. Like TK Maxx it can be a bit hit and miss.

thespy · 24/05/2023 10:37

Somewhere like Brand Alley may be your friend for high thread count linen at reduced prices! I've just had a quick look and they do have bedding sales on now. Soak and Sleep are good too but they aren't super cheap anymore.

Mummyoflabradors · 24/05/2023 10:39

M&S do plain linen bedding, don’t think they have a flat sheet though.

Thanks! The M&S ones look good (and I could always get a flat sheet elsewhere) – but their double sizing for the fitted sheet seems really odd?! I'm not sure I've seen that sizing elsewhere (doesn't help that it's in inches and I work in cm!)

Mummyoflabradors · 24/05/2023 10:54

@FrenesiGates I think they are just standard sizes, the same as all their bedding.
