Lamp shade ring squeezy thing

Just bought this lampshade and cannot install it. I know there’s a trick to that squeezy but in the ring but can’t figure it out.

Don't you unscrew the top thingy on the lamp stand and then pop the white bit on the stand where ghe screw bit was and screw the stand back up

Yeah. Unscrew the top bit of the lamp.

Sorry, this is for a ceiling light.

Then unscrew the thingy on the ceiling pendant

cant get the ring over the light bulb socket so think I need to remove what I gather is called a reducer ring

That plastic bit with the middle cut out is to make it fit on a smaller, table lamp fitting. You’ll probably need to pop it out to make the shade fit on a pendant fitting.

It just clicks/pops out

Done it! Needed a bit of force but it’s out.
