The perfect sideboard....

Hi,

So I've got a space by the door I need to utilize as a shoe/hat/gloves/sunglasses sort of storage area. I'm sick to death of IKEA type solutions so I'm trying to move away from that downstairs (kids rooms aren't ready to ditch the kallax and Billys yet 😂). So I'm looking for a really nice sideboard but I'm not sure what sort of style. The hallway is a blank canvas at the moment so any colour and style is on the table.
It needs to have drawers and cupboards ideally.
Space I have to work with is max 120cm wide and max 50cm depth. Any height.

Please can I see your sideboards? Bonus points for links 😁

I do have one in mind that I'm mulling over but I daren't share it cause there's only 8 left in stock 🙈

I always look for second hand first but the local area is a bit dry at the moment. There's a few upcycled ones on Facebook marketplace but they're done in a strange half painted way I don't like.
I really like the one with the hexagons, not sure if DH will agree though.

Loads of Ercol in this style that are within the right dimensions. It's not as popular a style as their mid-century look and they've often been painted but they're still good quality.

What's your price range like? Vinterior is great for vintage and antique sideboards and has a good search engine so you can look for the exact dimensions you want at the price you want.

We always seek out antique or vintage pieces before resorting to new and have had several preloved sideboards over the years.

Recently we sold a huge Arts and Crafts Movement one that was too large for our current house and replaced it with a more compact, mid century Lebus one that I found on Vinterior. I'm more of an ebay buyer so I searched there for something similar and actually found the same seller selling it for a bit less on ebay, so that's always worth doing.

I’m also on the hunt for the perfect sideboard now we have a place big enough but no luck yet. I keep an eye on eBay, I also look for ones to upcycle myself if need be. I don’t rate wayfair for quality products, just my experience. I’ve got John Lewis bedroom furniture that is good quality. I have also thought about using a local carpenter but assume that’s a pricey option.

I'll have a look at vinterior, I've not heard of that one, thank you

Vinterior are really expensive, you can often find the same things cheaper on eBay or on specialist mid century Facebook groups. Have you considered Nathan? They are made Parker Knoll, a good range of options but not as popular as other MC ranges so they can be picked up much more cheaply secondhand.

Agree that Vinterior can be expensive....I suggested looking there (more for inspiration than anything else), but personally I then searched eBay for something similar and actually found the same seller selling the sideboard we liked for £100 less.

It was on Vinterior for £450. We paid the same seller £350 on eBay which seemed very good value for money compared to the new sideboards I was considering from the likes of John Lewis, Swoon, Barker & Stonehouse etc.

Ours is a Lebus mid century one - but quite unusual as it has an almost A-frame style which appealed to us because we love Arts & Crafts Movement which is often A-frame, so it sits well with our Arts & Crafts pieces. It was the only one I found in that design after months of hunting for the right sideboard.
