Where would you go for a decent sofa bed?

We ordered a sofa bed from a company who shall remain nameless for the time being, and it’s turned into a saga. The sofa bed and matching armchair arrived in March but the sofa bed was damaged (so we didn’t accept it). A month on, we’re still trying to get it resolved and as the service has been so appalling, it’s getting to the point where we’re considering jacking in the whole thing, getting a refund and going elsewhere.

So where would you look for a decent sofa bed? I’ve looked at IKEA, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, and a range of other places. I love the look of Loaf sofas but can’t afford them! It would be our only sofa and in use every day, used as a bed maybe every month but needs to be comfortable for two people as we have no spare room. Would welcome any obvious suggestions we might be missing!

I’m interested too. Some Loaf options on eBay, but still quite dear. Swoon much more affordable but get bad reviews.

Try sofa sofa, they are in Wales and I find them really good, have used them twice for sofa beds, for my own spare room and my rental property.

This is ours. It's not amazingly comfortable but it's ok for an overnight guest.

I bought a mattress topper to go on top to make it a little more plush.

We have Sofatime in Northern Ireland but not sure if they are all over the UK. They are amazing as is Dunelm and Harvey Phillips for sofa beds. Good luck getting one 🤞🍀

Habitat online. My bestie had one as her main sofa and I slept on it a lot. Most comfortable sofa bed ever, and same size a kingsize bed.

Look for places/brands with options to pick a mattress - then go for a decent one!

We just bought one which is very similar to the Cocoon sofa beds (but half the price) from a local shop. Delivered quickly and very comfortable as a bed, if a little firm as a sofa. If you are anywhere near Edinburgh I can recommend the shop. We were intending to get the Cocoon but we’re put off by the fact we couldn’t see it anywhere outside London before buying.

We are overseas but just bought an amazing one from Tempur. My mother slept on it and said it’s fantastic and feels like a proper bed.

Nabru do decent sofa beds

We went with John Lewis in the end but also liked one from M&S. They were the only ones I found that folded out fully into a mattress the same width as a normal double bed.

It’s Sleep bed and sofa centre, on Haddington Place (Leith Walk). The people who run it are a bit eccentric (verging on flaky) but everything was fine overall. This picture is the sofa we have but a different colour.

The bed is just slightly narrower than king size. Bedding is stored inside, we use a thick topper to smooth out the joins between the sections. Everyone who has slept on it says it’s comfortable.
