What sofa to pair with this sofa

Hi all
We have recently bought this navy sofa and now looking to pair it with another 2/3 seater sofa. It will placed and shown on pic 2. I am not able to decide what sofa will go well with the navy one, in terms of colour and material? I am thinking a lighter colour...does it have to be velvet as well? Or can I mix fabrics? Some ideas to be able to visualise will be really helpful. Thank you!

definitely mix fabric, not another velvet. I’d go for leather if you can afford it, in a light or mid brown. Not dark.

Thanks @AlmostOver22, I want to mix fabric but not sure what will go well with the velvet! We are replacing leather sofas that we had for ages, so i wanted to go for completely different look this time...although we had dark brown, may be a light brown will give a more softer feeling...

What colour is your room? I would pair grey or even mustard with navy and there are lots of lovely materials out there at the moment, soft or textured materials that would give a lovely contrast.

Nice sofa, definitely mix fabrics and styles. You want to have something that brings it together though, other accessories etc I would maybe try a linen fabric sofa? You could go really subtle colour since the blue is so bold. I like to search on Pinterest, if you look at navy blue sofa styling you’ll see some good suggestions, lots of browns and terracotta kind of colours.

Thanks @wateraddict, the room is currently beige with blue and teal rug and curtains...we will paint the walls at some point, but haven't decided on any colours yet... the flooring is very close to the dark grey wooden flooring as seen on the 1st pic with the sofa.
I love mustard with the navy but I fear it might be too bold and difficult to maintain especially with a young child! But will look at some options...
@Whaeanui thank you!, yes I will definitely mix fabrics and good idea about using accessories to bring the 2 together... will check out some linen sofa options, I was not sure if linen and velvet will go together, but I think it's the colour contrast and how I accessorise to bring them together is what that matters. Will check out Pinterest for any ideas. I like the idea of terracotta, sounds like it'll go well with the navy...will check some options... so have mustard, terracotta and grey colours as options for now...thank you both... any more ideas anyone else? 🙂

We have a natural linen sofa paired with a mustard/old gold yellow sofa. I think natural linen would go well with your blue velvet too. It’s neutral but with some warmth.

Whataretheodds · 13/04/2023 16:01

I think you need to work out what coliur scheme you want overall in the room. Greige goes well with navy but then so does hot pink.
Def get a different fabric as well as colour.
It needs to tie in with the walls and curtains (or change them to fit with the sofa combo you love)

Something like this
A brushed cotton
In a raspberryish colour

I think I'd go with another jewel colour, maybe green.
If I was doing that I'd get another velvet, if not I'd choose a tan leather.

Definitely not grey, god I'm so bored of grey!

Tbh, I've always gone for neutral sofa colours so I can decorate around them but that blue is lovely.

ladygindiva · 13/04/2023 16:16

MIL has a similar sofa and has her second smaller sofa in a mustard velvet, it looks really nice. She puts navy themed cushions on the mustard sofa and yellow/ gold/ mustard themed cushions on the navy sofa.

WinterCarlisle · 13/04/2023 16:16

Dusky pink

ladygindiva · 13/04/2023 16:16

A soft dark orange or pink would work too I think.

LadyEloise1 · 13/04/2023 16:24

I'd get the same again - it's a lovely sofa.

Winter2020 · 13/04/2023 16:33

I love this style and think it would go nicely

Thanks all for the ideas
@minipie, i will check out linen options
@Whataretheodds Greige is a good shout...it will look good with the navy and the floor colours etc. I live the blush pink colour of that sofa @Bananaramdam... but think it'll be too bold for the room and won't go with the overall scheme...but I am tempted to bring in a little bit of that colour, may be some accessories or a footstool!
@ladygindiva, yes mustard was one of my original choices and I have seen it work really well with the navy...I'll look for any non velvet fabric options in mustard. Orange and pink might be too bold...but May look at some accessorises
@Iwantthepenthouse I actually saw a beautiful
Olive green sofa that I loved, but don't think it'll be go with the navy as both are dark and plus with our dark flooring, I am not sure it'll all work together!

@LadyEloise1 I was contemplating getting 2 of the same sofa 😀but thought better to Mix it up a bit.@Winter2020 yes that style is very similar to the one we have and on a lighter tan colour will go well...wanted to mix the style too, but will keep as an option while looking... all the colours suggested here are great... I'll do some online search and post some pics here for feedback. Thank you all

I'd get this in cotton twill weave dark natural:

I like the more modern silhouette to complement the navy Chesterfield, and you could get it with buttons as a nod to the buttons on the Chesterfield.

I also think a neutral beige/greige would be nice, and not velvet.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/04/2023 16:01

I've got a blue velvet Victorian chaise in my sittingroom and have it with a MCM tan leather sofa. They both have buttons and legs which links them enough to keep me happy. I actually need a third sofa in that room (currently have an ancient IKEA Klippan that needs replacing) and thinking about either a tweed or linen sofa cover but can't decide the sofa shape.

livealittlemore · 23/04/2023 07:44

Ah getting one with buttons is a great idea to tie them in together...thanks @JaninaDuszejko @Bookshipper...I'll hunt the web for ideas in the colours mentioned earlier. We have been away for Easter break, so haven't had a chance to look yet. But back this week, so will start the search then
