Cream carpets!

I've just ordered cream carpets for the bedrooms and stairs/landing.

On a scale of 1-10 how much will I regret this?

No pets but a toddler and some teenagers. It will be a no shoes upstairs rule and the downstairs has oak floors. Its going to be a nightmare isn't it?

I've had the same cream carpets down throughout the house for 15 years (yes I'd love some new ones but I can't afford it). Cats but no children. I have a strict no shoes policy throughout the house and spot stain immediately. They still look good.

@SoggyGround thank you this gives me hope it wasn't a terrible idea 😊

In my last house I had teenage boys and a dog with cream carpets upstairs. They were actually quite forgiving (the carpets!).

I've got them. No problem at all. Shoes off and clean up spills when they happen

They are being fitted this week! They are bleachable apparently 😂

Slight tangent but I read an article the other day in a housey magazine about a couple who had refurbished and put cream carpet IN THEIR KITCHEN.

I can already see the MN post in 5 years… “crazy things the previous owners did”

Stairs and landing and bedrooms is ok though OP provided you have a strict policy of no shoes or drinks/food upstairs.

TinaTotal · 13/04/2023 20:14

@minipie IN the kitchen WHAT 😂

At least it wasn't in the bathroom though 😂

Hmm we have a cream carpet on the stairs and in the living room.
Both need a good scrub time from time, but apart from that I have no issues with it.

we has pale ivory carpets upstairs they lasted 7 years With kids. I didn’t allow and food or drinks other than water upstairs. It was the make up that ruined them. They now have gre but our our one needs replacing but has lasted 11 years. You won’t regret it. Just be strict

I had cream carpets all ready in the bungalow I bought but I regret not taking them out and replacing with some thing else I've a carpet shampoo machine but they still look mucky.

I have cream carpets on stairs and upstairs. I have a cat and a v grubby pre teen. I shampoo them regularly!

Patiencr · 07/06/2023 11:08

I've have a cream carpet in my lounge. Just kerp to the no shoes rule and get it cleaned regularly.

We have had cream carpets throughout the upstairs for about 10y. I put coloured runners on the upstairs corridor, and all the bedrooms have rugs as well. We also have a no shoes and no food upstairs rule.

There are two small stains upstairs. One where a dc tried to get to the bathroom but didn't make it and upchucked precisely between the two runners. The other looks like a drink was smuggled upstairs, spilled, and just mopped up rather than letting me know so I could clean it properly.

TBH though, after several years the marks are barely visible. (I know they're there.)

Get the best carpets you can and they will withstand a lot - including cleaning.

Bleach cleanable
no shoes
all good
the only other ’protection’ I’d add is some sort of rug where teens may be applying makeup in bedroom
