I have the most boring landing in the world. It’s basically a rectangle with 6 white doors coming off it. No windows, no natural light.

I repainted all the doors yesterday and I’m thinking of painting the walls Dulux Willow Tree green.

Then I want to add this picture to the wall (will attach) and maybe put a light rug down … is there anything else I can do? Do you think my idea will look nice or do you have any better suggestions?

I have two striped rugs on the floor, recycled hand made cotton, it lifts the space. Plus a tall mirror propped up.

Nobody hangs out on the landing and peruses the decor though?

That’s true but I love the challenge of turning pointless spaces into something nice to look at - plus the landing is an extension of the hallway which does need to look nice

Is the carpet grey? It looks like a dark grey so I don't think willow tree will work at all. Are you open to other colours?

I am yes, only problem is it has to match the hallway downstairs - although the flooring down there will be changing

And now you’ve said that I realise you’re right, I didn’t think about the bloody carpet 🤦‍♀️

Not sure why you think Willow Tree won't work? Looking at it it's a green with a lot of yellow in it so should be fine with a grey carpet

A couple of mirrors (if you have the wall space for them and the Dali) might make it seem larger.

I love doors, you can make them really interesting. Your doors are especially nice as they are already panelled.If you pick out the panels by making the spaces darker ( wipe the paint on as if you were rubbing on Polish) they will start to have some life.

Rugs on carpet, especially in narrow spaces, are quite dangerous ; they will ruck up and move.

What colour are the walls on the stairwell? It looks as if the upper landing is not really part of them, so you could have a different colour.

Willow Tree will be fine with the grey carpet. How about pictures up the stairs and onto the landing, not just one on the landing?

Because with slate toned carpets I'd either go with a similar tone eg a dusky colour or with an opposite eg a bright bold colour. I don't think pastels work well and I think Willow would look a bit sickly

An interesting light fitting? Hang some fun photos/art/mirrors/objects on the walls, going up stairs.
Wouldn’t go with a rug - bit of a trip hazard when going to the loo at night!

Ok I tried a tester pot of willow green, it’s a very green colour! I thought it would be muted green but no, it’s more mint.

DH has gone out to buy a tester pot of Tranquil Dawn.

I am very loyal to Dulux but if TD looks shit I might have to buy Crown sage green as that’s the colour I originally wanted (Dulux don’t seem to do it anymore)
