Paint? Wallpaper Help me decide please (photos)

Probably sounds nuts but I've never wallpapered anything (and I'm in my 50s)
We lived in RAF quarters for years so lived with a lot of Magnolia, and when we bought our house nearly 20 years ago we just stuck to neutrals.. mostly pale grey, white, off white etc.
We've just rearranged the living room to move the TV above the fireplace and now the walls need redecorating as the brackets have left marks, and where pictures and a large simple mirror will be rehung.

Anyway I've been staring at the chimney breast and wondering if it would nice papered..or painted with an actual colour.. but I have no idea. The room gets a lot of light at the back, (bifold doors) but is less bright by the living room door.

I rather like the idea of wallpaper just on the chimney breast but no idea what sort of style/shades or if it will look hopelessly dated... not that I'm trendy by any means.
I've included pics, so you can see what the room looks like from most angles :)
(yes I have a toddler grandchild whose toys and books are trying to take over....!)

Nice room but I think wallpapering a wall with a TV on would be difficult to get right and yes could end up looking dated. I would paint the breast a bold colour - a deep green maybe. You could wallpaper the wall opposite the breast, in colours that complement the breast (moving the picture above that sofa to where the TV was originally and letting the wallpaper shine)

I hadn't thought of that..yes that might work! That little pic will be coming down and the large photo frame moving to the wall where the TV was, and there is a large mirror to go back up possibly. Going to look at some wall paper...!

I discovered a love of wallpaper this year, had never done it before but bought the paste the wall paper and it is just so much easier than painting.

Slop paste onto wall with big brush, hold roll of paper at top of wall and roll it down then slice with scissors or a Stanley knife, smooth out with a damp cloth, then next piece. After it's all up trim top and bottom along skirting and ceiling for neat edges.

Took about half an hour to do my landing and it was an immediate big change. No waiting for coats to dry, 2nd or third coats, edging in....

I would paint it maybe that mustard colour you have on your rug and cushions. Or a wallpaper in that colour if you prefer.
I would also move the tv up a little and have a nice wooden lintel above your fire that matches the other wood in the room.

I think you could get away with a jewel tone like teal or emerald green on that wall for a pop of colour and interest.

Is there a colour your eye is always drawn towards? Go with that.

You can always paint over it if you don't love it! Wallpaper is another matter so i'd go with paint first to find what you love.

If you look on World of wallpaper you can take a photo of your room then upload it on your phone and it will show you how the paper would look. Hours of fun!! Can choose plain coloured wallpapers too to see what paint would look like. I love it 🥰
