Low cost double bed for my teen son!

I don't have loads to spend as already bought couple birthday gifts but hed love a double and it would mean we could house guests from time to time more easily.
I've tried Facebook market place (woukd buy a new mattress of course) but it's awash with weird ads at £30/ £50 "inbox for details "
Can any be real? I've heard some people work at bed factories near me so maybe they get cheap offers?
Otherwise where can I get a low cost fabric basic bed? He doesn't want wood or metal annoyingly. Metal I'm with him on as they creak but fabric is more pricey. All ideas welcome pls

Is there a local British Heart Foundation furniture store? We have one that sells second hand furniture, they have a shop so you can view and they do deliver.

People may well be selling their old beds on market place though and if you’re getting a new mattress it doesn’t sound too dodgy. People. Redecorate and reconfigure all the time.

I'd change the search filter on marketplace to used good condition as that filters out all the annoying weird "bargains"

I got my 16 year old (just under 6' tall and muscly) something similar to this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lorelai-Platform-Support-Underbed-Assembly/dp/B088X3ZLK4/ref=sr_1_33?crid=2WU873Q9YH33T&keywords=small+double+bed+frame&qid=1680038983&s=kitchen&sprefix=small+doule+bed+fram%2Ckitchen%2C109&sr=1-33

and a mattress like this (although there are cheaper) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZFKZ9NN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This was a small double because his room isn't very big. He has had it for a year and a bit and it is the most comfortable bed in the house (and also perfectly adequate for 2) .

My overall cost was around £150 - but I reckon you could get cheaper suppliers on ebay perhaps?

Anotheradventureforme · 28/03/2023 22:34

Just seen that he doesn't want metal! Ignore me!

SpinningFloppa · 28/03/2023 22:38

I tried to get a bed on Facebook market place but it was full of scams tbh, they weren’t people selling used beds they were brand new it’s easy to spot the dodgy ones, I couldn’t really find anyone selling old bed frames as it was too blocked up with fake ones and there didn’t seem to be any way to filter it on mine.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/03/2023 22:40

Don't, just don't. Cheap, second hand beds come with a free bed bug and skin dander. Better to buy a new futon imo or a mattress to go on the floor.

RoddyStJames · 28/03/2023 22:41

I don’t think you are going to get an actual bed for £30/£50.

Have you tried ebay? If you filter by nearest first you may get a bargain. We sold one that had been slept in only twice dirt cheap because we wanted to move our toddler into that bigger room & wanted it gone quickly.
Amazon have double divan inc mattress for £150.
is there a discount shop/ex catalogue shop near you that may have bargains?

Beenaboutabit · 28/03/2023 22:44

Freecycle or your local charity furniture shop

just get the base and buy a brand new mattress

Matresses cost money to dispose of, so avoid being offered a freebie

KnickerlessParsons · 28/03/2023 22:46

How low cost? IKEA has some very reasonably priced beds.

mamaduckbone · 28/03/2023 22:49

I'm after exactly the same thing - your recommendation looks good @Anotheradventureforme thanks

labellefrance2 · 29/03/2023 07:01

@Anotheradventureforme actually this looks great thanks.
I hadn't thought about the reality of a fabric second hand. Metal or wood would be fine but yep , new it is.
The bargain posts are to lure you in to buy from individuals who don't have actual inking shops I think where the £30 is for e.g. a pillow or their lowest cost item.

This looks nice and compact. Can you / have you got a headboard too?

familyissues12345 · 31/03/2023 13:31

My sons have small double beds from dreams, eldest is 6ft 2 and fairly broad and he sleeps fine on it (albeit slightly diagonally Grin)

I don't think they were ridiculously expensive either

Megamopyeah · 31/03/2023 19:38

I got my DS one from bed.com. It’s absolutely fine.

addictedtotheflats · 31/03/2023 21:20

We have two ottomans from wayfair which were around £180 each and they are great.
