Decorate my lounge

I'd love some inspiration for my lounge.
The walls are painted F&B green smoke (chimney breast is due to be painted too, it just needed to be re-plastered). The brown leather sofas are staying too.

Everything else is up for grabs (it's currently a mishmash of the old owners' existing bits and stuff we've moved in from our old flat).

I was thinking of getting a Berber style rug and some cream cushions, some art on the walls, a new light fitting, and some kind of cabinet for DH's whiskey... but feel free to tell me those are awful ideas!

I think its quite dark (although I love the colour) so I think you need to inject some light somehow.

Personally, I would paint the chimney breast the same colour and add detail to the alcoves, either by way of built in shelving (as attached) with lots of interest / colour via books etc and lighting, or if you're not keen on built in shelving / cupboards, console tables etc. I would possible put wall lights in the alcoves too.

If you have to keep the sofas, you also need to lighten the walls they're against, so I'd put over sized modern paintings up (or maybe 6 / 8 normal sized pics arranged in 2 rows etc). I think the rug has blue tones (i have the same one!) so I'd switch that. Yes to a new ceiling light pendant, and cushions. I wouldn't have cream, I'd have cushions that tie in with the colour of the walls.

Super. Agree it needs lightening: it’s a lovely cosy colour (it has been great on wintery evenings with the fire on!) but with the sofas it’s all too much. Love the alcoves idea and I think oversized prints will make a big difference.

It's very dark and looks quite depressing actually. I'd buy brightly coloured artwork, rugs, curtains etc and get lots of table or standard lamps with bright shades to liven it all up a bit.
It looks a bit like a commercial reception area at the moment.

I was scouting out something similar last night like this. I was wary of anything white/off-white looking too “add on” but your example nails it.

Yes, whilst I love green the room as it currently is does appear to look quite dark.

I love a lot of the items and accessories in the picture suggested by @Africa2goespecially the rug and also the ones you have attached but don’t necessarily think you need a picture rail.

I would just borrow. few of the ideas you like the best.
