Carpet musty smell

I bought a vintage carpet in ebay and it has a string musty smell, really off putting
How can I remove the odour quickly and effectively please without damaging it Thnaks in advance

Bicarbonate of soda is a good odour neutraliser.

Sprinkle loads of it on, as many tubs as you can, leave it for days then hoover it off. You can put a drop or two of essential oil in the bicarb a day before spreading it on so it smells nice but isn’t wet so doesn’t mark the carpet.

I used Shake 'n' Vac on a carpet in a house that had been owned by a smoker a few weeks ago. I was very impressed - it got the smell under control very quickly.
