Long lasting, firm sofa?

Hi everyone.

We bought our first house coming up 5 years ago and spent nearly £2000 on a sofa, swivel chair and pouff from sofology. We even paid extra for the ‘better’ cushion filling.

Well, I’ve been moaning about the sofa since early on, but since having a baby, I’m at the end of my tether with it. It’s like sitting on the floor (and we both worked full time, neither of us used it heavily during lockdown either - OH at his own desk and I work in a hospital)

Neither of us are heavy in weight either! So to me it is just terrible quality.

We are now serious about getting a new set, but don’t want the same issue! Has anyone got any recommendations for a settee that’s comfortable, stays firm and lasts longer than 1-2 years?!

Thank you!

I've had this one coming up for seven years and it's still going strong. Amazing for the price. We've also just bought a chesterfield style from Oak Furniture Land and it's really high and firm, but I can't speak for longevity yet

Had both IKEA and Furniture Village, and both lasted well. The FB one still looks brand new 4 years on, and the IKEA one is 13 years old nad still in good nick at a friend's house.

Had 2 from Delcor a 2 and a 3 seater. No problem after 12 years and a DH/DD who used to fling themselves around. Not cheap, though

Thank you for the recommendations so far, I shall have a look! Trying to convince OH that a good sofa needs to be an ‘investment’ so hopefully price won’t matter (too much!)

@KimmySchmitt The one you have linked to is the exact style of sofa I have in mind. Trying to reclaim some space in our living room by getting rid of the huge swivel chair and massive table - both were nice pre baby! But now he’s rolling I’d like a bit more space, so having a chaise style sofa, with (ideally) no chair, or a very small one instead, would be ideal.

I have three sofas from sofa.com, two are 18 years old and one is 10 years old. They are all still comfy (ok one of them feels overly firm but that’s because it’s got a sofabed inside).

My Dd2 bought this 2 years ago and it's brilliant ☺️👏

I am very happy with my Nantucket sofa from M&S. The Bounceback cushion filling is firm but comfortable. Not cheap though.

Thanks everyone. Certainly much to consider. I know there will be negative reviews everywhere, but I’ve found a lot of negative reviews are previous customers who had their sofas before and since buying the new stuff saying it’s not lasting anywhere near and the quality is terrible.

We went to Oak Furniture Land and Next yesterday and saw a couple but the recent negative reviews for almost everything suggest their stuff isn’t what it used to be and the quality is shoddy these days.

I think I’m scared to be burned again for a few thousand after the last time, although reading a thread on moneysavingexpert suggests Sofology were on watchdog just after we bought our sofa due to poor quality cushion filling, so perhaps not every furniture store will be as bad…

Not a budget option but we bought Lay z boy Tulsa sofas from SCS 18 mths ago, and they are super comfortable. We did buy the power recliners, but after trying every sofa in SCS and DFS ( which I felt were all hard benches), the Lay z boy won.
