If you have a bay window...

Which of the following do you have?!

  • blinds on 3 windows
  • pole going across the top of the window on the outside of the recess
  • pole inside the recess going around the bay

I'm leaning towards option b. Maybe build a window seat, or put a piece of furniture there that will end up behind the curtains!

We have a bay window pole that goes around the bay. Got it from John Lewis.
I think you'll regret putting curtains across the straight edge, it will look weird when they're closed?

Half heigh shutters. That’s it

crew2022 · 03/03/2023 23:45

@WinterMusings absolutely but they are a local company to me . They were really helpful in sourcing material that was wide enough fur my big central window with no join

We have a curtain track round the top of the window on ours. Our radiator is underneath it so a big curtain across the whole thing would block the radiator off from the room so we didn't really have a choice where the curtain went.

WobblyLondoner · 04/03/2023 08:34

Shutters in one room, blinds in another, one per window. Can't imagine having a curtain across the whole bay - would lose a lot of space and look weird.

VerbenaGirl · 04/03/2023 08:39

Blinds on all three windows. There was option b when we moved in, but I didn’t like the way it cut that bit of the room off.

Have a 3 window bay.

Used to have a bendy curtain track that went round the inside of the bay. Liked it but was hard to find curtains for a track rather than a pole.

Have now got wooden blinds fitted on each window which look amazing. Am thinking about adding curtains too & would want them to go inside the bay too, otherwise I loose too much of the room if they are outside it.

Thanks everyone! For those who have a pole in the bay, is it tricky to get rings that can pass the brackets without getting stuck?

I think I'm leaning towards blinds or shutters but it feels like curtains dress the room more.

Blinds on all 3 windows

I like the shutters, which companies did you all use?

Here's a pic of mine.

Ours looks like this except we have a sofa in the bay and a double curtain rail from Ikea so we have voiles on the inner most rail and curtains on the outer so its a layered effect. and blinds on the windows

Whyisitsososohard · 04/03/2023 14:31

We have a half bay which covers the whole width of the living room. So basically a standard window and an angle on the right. We have curtain poles on the top of window frames. So one at an angle. The window is too big to cut off the recess and would look odd. So I'd go for this on an actual bay too.

PritiPatelsMaker · 04/03/2023 14:50

Pole around the bay. No blinds.

footstoop · 04/03/2023 15:00

.

JaninaDuszejko · 04/03/2023 15:07

We have c-rings to get round past the brackets. They came with the pole. We had to put some silicone lubricant on the pole initially to get the rings to slide smoothly. The C rings sometimes get entangled with each other but it's not a big deal to sort out (and the same thing happens with O rings).

bussteward · 04/03/2023 15:12

Pole going around the shape of the bay but I’m going to add blackout blinds per window as our curtains aren’t blocking the light enough. The angles of our bay make going round the corners OK – plus we got a MTM pole rather than a kit with the bendy doofrey at the corner that never quite works.

@crew2022 I'm glad they worked out so well for you. I'll see if I can find someone local.

You could always have dress curtains. We considered this. Basically material either side that looks like a curtain to finish the room off but actually have blinds on the windows (or shutters). I've seen some examples done really well. X

Sorry I don't know why I put a x on my post! Habit

We used California Shutters for our bay and four other windows at the front, we’re really happy with them and have ordered another five for the windows at the back.
Only negative is that there is a long manufacturing and delivery time. I placed our latest order at the end of January and was quoted 14-18 weeks.

Thank you @MadisonAvenue

I'm trying to decide what to do with a newly reglazed 3 panel bay at the moment so thanks for this thread. The curtains are on a Swish bendy track from Dunelm which I bent literally over my knee. But people look in as they go past so I'm thinking about Intu or Perfect Fit Venetians. The handles on the side panel windows stick out a mile so the top openers at the side panels will need their own tiny blinds... or I just draw the curtains for the side panels and have a blind for the main pane. I could have nets but it's S facing and gets very bright, so a Venetian would allow me to control brightness better.
