Paint a composite stone fire surround?

We moved into a relatively new build house and it has a greige composite stone fire surround. I really don't like it but it's too good quality and too new just to rip out right now (in a few more years maybe) so we're thinking of painting it black. Would that be a terrible idea? Any ideas what paint can be used safely on a fire surround? The walls will be a soft white and the heath is black granite under all that dust.

I think it will look really heavy and looming in the room tbh. If you're getting rid why not sell it on eBay and buy one you like? If it's good quality you'd get a lot for it - but not if it's painted...

Unfortunately it's one piece and built into the wall so the only way to get it out of the room is to break it up.

I’d not do black to ne honest, but I’d do something like a dark emerald green and make it a real feature. I’d also paint the actual black surround green but leave the dark gold edging.
