Need a new pair of floor length curtains for a bedroom (228cm x 228cm) If I want something classy (and not too expensive), what should I be looking for? What colours? Pleats? Eyelets? I have no idea! Do you have new bedroom curtains that you are pleased with? Any advice appreciated

Definitely not eyelets. Even the expensive ones look studenty.

Pinch pleats are classiest but have to be made to measure, so on a budget I always go for ready-made pencil pleats. Go for double fullness and take your time pulling up and distributing the pleats. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube.

In a bedroom you might like to consider an extra blackout / thermal lining, which will also add bulk and make them look more expensive. Dunelm’s pencil pleat linings hang on the lowest row of the heading tape and are excellent.

Once gathered and hung from the pole, loosely tie the open curtains for a couple of days to encourage the pleats to hang correctly. You might also like to tuck curtain weights into the hems, which will help them to hang nicely.

I went for pencil pleat because they have more fabric in them, and I need two sets to cover a patio door. I’m hanging them from a black pole with rings though, not a track. They aren’t hung yet but they feel lovely.

there is definitely a dominant availability of eyelet type curtains rather than pleat though, and some shops stock no pleats at all

I have also had made to measure ones from 247 curtains and made a velvet pelmet for them, they are my favourites!
