Polyfilla problems!

How do you put poly villa on?! I’m smearing it over holes and chips but when I try and smooth it with the scraper putty knife thingy it comes off at one end.
I know it’s mad, but it’s doing my head in!

Is it quite a deep hole? You might need to build the layers up?

I usually leave it a little raised and sand down after its dried.

if the hole is dusty inside, the polyfilla won't stick as well. wipe the hole with a damp cloth.

and yes, leave a bit more polyfilla on than you need and then sand it.

Spray the area with a plant mister and dab up the excess moisture. The area is better dust free.
You're better off filling the hole with a quick swipe of a clean filler knife. Avoid the temptation to mess over and over and smooth it out completely.
Allow it to dry, 24hrs and rub back smooth with a light grit sand paper.
For deeper holes and smaller layers until you build it up. Trying to do it in one go will lead to sagging of the filler and it will shrink when eventually dry.
