What cushions with this sofa?

Hi all, some advice please. The sofa is a corner, fabric, charcoal / dark grey colour. Not in the house so can’t upload a picture but trying to find one online. Will upload soon but from the description what would you suggest?

DH thinks cushions are a bit dated now but I have no idea!

It’s not this one but very close. Legs are different - our legs are black. No idea why I can’t find online!

What cushions with this sofa?

Sorry forgot to add the carpet is grey and the walls are white. No furniture other than sofa decided in yet. No curtains just white blinds

Maybe mustard cushions? Nice contrast with grey and gives a pop of colour in an otherwise neutral room

Newhome1231 · 19/02/2023 21:28

@NewbieSM thats an idea! It could work

It really depends on the other colours in the room. Photos would help.

Do you actually want cushions to use or to look pretty?

Newhome1231 · 19/02/2023 21:43

@MollyMunster i’m not in the house yet. But will take a picture when we get there next week.

The room is empty, no other furniture yet and won’t be for a while. Walls are white, we will only have corner sofa for now then build up rest of furniture around sofa etc.

i think I want the cushions to look nice but also so I be functional but look good first!

Our style is probably more colourful/eclectic than yours @Newhome1231 and our living room sofa is cream linen (we also have a multicoloured love seat at right angles to it), but we've gone for a mix of cushions that pick up the colours in our rug as well as echoing colours of our art etc.

So, we currently have teal, fuchsia pink, olive green, cream and purple cushions in a mix of velvet, linen and crewelwork. Different sizes, shapes, textures and patterns too - so one is geometric, one embroidered, one William Morris design, one a silky velvet etc....

Sounds like it wouldn't work but - imho anyway! - it does.

Buy what you love and don't try too hard (says the person who's been dreaming of cushions since starting the makeover of that room over a year ago!), possibly starting with the curtain colour(s) and picking cushions that tie in with those or otherwise a piece of art that is a statement piece in the space.

We also have a fabulous orange table lamp so I'm planning to add an orange cushion into the mix too 😉

Newhome1231 · 20/02/2023 22:24

@LibertyLily that sounds amazing! I know I need not stress about it too much as everything will tie in at some point. It just looks so bare and empty. I’m going to try and find some art work then think of other things to go with it.

anyone got any ideas of nice art works? Don’t really want to spend more than £250 at the absolute max.

I think you need to introduce colour and yes you definitely need cushions, it will add softness and make it more comfy feeling . Otherwise the room is going to feel very clinical and cold.

i would do something like these

but it depends on your aesthetic, green is very trendy now and they would stand out nicely .

I’ve recently got these fuschia ones from her range and they are fantastic in real life, heavy and luxurious feeling, but I was tempted by rhe green fern ones.
