Making a rental property feel more modern

We've moving into a rental property for a year. It's a great size and layout for us, but an elderly lady used to live there so everything feels a little dated. The beds and sofas will be removed and we'll bring our own in, and all the decor and trinkets and pictures will be taken out. I wondered if anyone had any ideas of how to make it feel a bit more modern? Obviously won't be able to do much decorating as it's a rental and we don't want to invest too much if we're not there long term

Can you get new curtains, bedding, and houseplants?

Change the curtains where you can for floor length, that'll look better.

I would change the light fittings for something more modern, and get a fireguard to hide the fire.

You could look at peel and stick wallpaper which is removable, to do some bold feature walls

You could also look at tile stickers for the kitchen
