Sharps fitted wardrobes

Hello - we had Sharps round today to do a quote for some fitted wardrobes. 3 x double fitted wardrobes with a combination of hanging space, drawers and shelves. The price quoted is just under 5k which includes installation. They did the whole thing with giving us this discount and that discount etc. pre discount price was £10k. They will hold that price for us for 7 days.

We have Hammonds coming in a few days to give us a quote also.

Has anyone had experience with either Sharps or Hammonds that they are happy to share? How was the quality of the product? And reasons for choosing one over the other.

Also does 5k seem reasonable - I've no idea if that is a good price or not.

Thank you for your help.

have you looked at Ikea Pax?

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2023 12:24

I had a quote from sharps, it was very high and they didn't produce proper drawings. They also wanted to do plastering etc and it would have been a much bigger job
Also had Sliderobes as well. But they did t get back to me as they forgot about me. Eventually went with a local company, who were fab. Did it in one day and I love it.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2023 12:26

I was quoted £3k by sharps
I think I paid £2k for a small wardrobe. With long hanging. 2 short hanging rails, 4 Drawers and shelves for shoes. I decided against internal lining or floor as the walls and floor were fine.

I used Sharps. £7000 for two large wardrobes. One for clothes and the other for home office storage. Very quick and superb quality. I can't fault them. Next time I would get more quotes though.

Talipesmum · 15/02/2023 12:29

We got a quote from sharps and from a local highly recommended carpenter who does lots of fitted wardrobes etc. The sharps was nearly double the price, and much less nice, also much less flexible. And the seller was really patronising and massively annoyed me! We went with local guy and it was great.

My DD has a local company coming next month to fit new fitted wardrobes, sounds similar to you although they turn a corner , they cost just over £3,000 . Maybe you should check facebook and NEXTDOOR for recommendations?

Hammonds did an amazing job for us, much better and creative compared to the Sharps plan. Everyone always says local is best but we paid £££ for a room that is no better than Hammonds and hardly any price reduction.

Comefromaway · 15/02/2023 16:10

We had both Sharps and Hammond round. The quote Sharps gave was very high and the design was very basic included no extras such as mirrors on wardrobes, dressing table things etc.

Hammond was cheaper (though for one room we did choose their most high spec range) and they were able to incorporate everything we wanted. We went with them and were very happy with the end result.

Comefromaway · 15/02/2023 16:15

Two years ago my daughter's room in the cheaper Hammond range was £3,100 & our room in the premium range was £6,400.

They quoted £5,200 for a mid range for our room (all including VAT)

iceandfireagain · 15/02/2023 16:46

Thanks everyone. Really interesting to hear you're experiences. I think the reason we are opting for a company rather than a tradesperson is for the 12 year guarantee.

My sister recently had a fitted wardrobe done by a carpenter and then she had to pay extra to get it painted and wasn't very happy with the paint job.

Re: coat it seems what they've quoted us is similar to others.

Will be interesting to see what Hammond come up with.

We have just had fitted wardrobes installed by a local company (NW England) in my daughter's room, they are the full length of a double bedroom with 3 sliding doors, hanging and shelves inside. Cost £1075 fitted.

Suni55 · 10/05/2024 04:36

Could you please tell in details about the company. I tried searching NW England but no results online.Thank you

Hi, I used Argyle Mirror Doors (I think that's the right name) - they are based in Birkenhead on the Wirral. I'm not sure how far they travel but they're very helpful if you give them a call.

Usernamerequired123 · 10/05/2024 11:08

Used sharps in our new build. They are a bit expensive but totally worth it!! Also because it would have been a pain to identify a tradesperson who'd do a proper job.

SoftPillowAllNight · 10/05/2024 11:29

We had Hammonds do ours with all the usual discount and stuff was around £5500 for a premium range.
We didn't try Sharps but I believe the 2 brands have different products.
Sharps 'build' your wardrobe to the available space I.e. using your walls. Hammonds have a regular 'box' which they 'fit' to your space so more like a prebuilt wardrobe which sits close to your walls and the gaps are nicely covered.

So also think about which 'type' you prefer.

Really pleased with the Hammonds painted finish, it looks amazing.

Toomuchleopard · 10/05/2024 11:55

I got Sharps sliding mirror wardrobes 10 years ago and they are still in amazing condition and very sturdy. Very good quality. We got the price down loads from the reduced price just by negotiating. So it’s worth trying to get the price down a bit.

However if you’re in the NW try The Pear Mill Beds and Furniture in Bredbury near Stockport. They have a massive range and all available in different configurations.

We did exactly the same and I'm so glad we did. Our wardrobe was cheaper than Sharps, amazing quality and absolutely bloody beautiful.

We purchased a house with Sharpe's wardrobes, fitted either side of chimney. The vendors paid over £ 2,300 for 2 fitted, a few years ago, nothing special.Personally I would go to IKEA and look at the PAX range wardrobes, find a suitable fitter.I would think a much cheaper option. The PAX range seem very popular!

Guiltypleasures001 · 11/05/2024 22:18

Howdens are now doing wardrobes on a par with sharps and Hammond. You’ll need a tradie to fit them, but they have a 25 year guarantee.
