My newly restored house has been totally replastered. I want to paint it all one colour, not white. I was thinking Egyptian cotton but wondering if I should look at any think else.

Dulux pebble shore is a nice neutral that you can warm up or cool down depending on what you put with it. I've used it a lot in a few houses.

I recently painted my kitchen in 'mindful' from Coat paints. Online but you can get stick on swatches sent. I absolutely love it!

Mines F&B Skimming Stone which is gentle and warm

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 14/02/2023 19:02

Pebble shore NOT polished pebble, which is too grey for me.

Thanks I'll get some testers and try them out.

We’ve been using Egyptian Cotton for about 20 years in different houses/rooms, so obviously really like it. However we recently used it in an east-facing room with a dark grey sofa and it looked really dingy. I was quite surprised because we had just used it as our go-to colour without thinking about it. We’ve changed the sofa for a different coloured one now and it looks much better but I’m not sure that I would paint a whole house in it without considering the light in different rooms and how it works with your existing furniture.

Another neutral that goes with everything is the slaked lime family from little greene. I have the original and slaked lime mid throughout my house and it's lovely, soft, goes with anything. (I colour matched so can't comment on the paint itself)

Dulux Natural calico.
Warm but not remotely yellow

We had Egyptian Cotton throughout our past 2 houses but for some reason it did not look right in our current home. It looked really mustard green and doomy. I was stumped because it really is my absolute favourite go to colour.
In the end we went for F&B Skimming Stone which is almost but not quite the same.

we went for Little Greene Clay Pale colour match on all walls. Shirting on the ceilings. we live in a north facing terraced house, and we're very happy with our choice.

Petronus · 17/02/2023 14:11

I found Egyptian cotton too dark for my north facing room, it might have been okay in a sunny room. Having just painted a lot of my house can I strongly recommend Johnstones paint. I started with dulux but found I was having to do multiple coats to get a decent finish, so swapped half way through doing the hall. It was an absolute gamechanger and made the whole thing so much easier. Just used it in my kitchen too - I don't think I will every buy crown/dulux again.

Slaked lime is really beautiful.

SplinteredRuler · 18/02/2023 07:56

Little Green Limestone here, it looks very different in the light of each room, everything from almost white to soft pale mushroom through to a soft pale grey.

We did Egyptian Cotton throughout with white wood work. It's very easy on the eye. Aside from this, our home isn't neutral, the things we have are loud, and this seems to be a good base. It is true though that it appears differently in different rooms. One word of warning with EC, the pot from B&Q has a pink base, we have the version with a white base from Brewers where they mix it fresh. I didn't know this, and when i bought a pot from B&Q to do a quick run around the house painting over marks (i so this every year or so), i then had the annoying task of repainting whole walls with the proper stuff.

Another vote for Pebble Shore by Dulux. I like the matt easycare. I first used it in my living room and now I've used it in several rooms. Such a nice neutral tone to it and the paint is lovely to use

AlexandraJJ · 18/02/2023 08:31

My fave is Adam Cream, Craig and Rose. Light and warm even in north facing rooms

DorotheaFrazil · 18/02/2023 08:43

Dulux Timeless for us throughout.
