The rug that @Littleloveydovey posted at 09.55 today is lovely and would brighten the space, imho...it surprised me as I don't usually like striped rugs!

I said on your other thread @Holmfirthrita the rug needs to be much larger than what you currently have - and needs to sit under the front legs of the sofa - and that there's a good rug/room visualiser on the Irugs website. You don't need to buy from there, obviously, but it is a great way to see what colour rugs would suit your room. I found it incredibly useful when we were choosing a rug for our dining room.

Back to the cushions - I agree with the suggestion to remove the grey checked ones for now, but think that having the mustard and orange ones together is potentially going to look a bit meh. They need to be different in some other way if you do that - ie, different size, texture, shape or pattern.

I realised part of what I didn't like about the cushions on our own large living room sofa was that they were all too similar size-wise! I'm now mixing it up more and have velvet, cotton and crewelwork in various shapes, colours and sizes. Plus I'm ordering a lovely patterned linen one for the centre. It takes time for the right combination to emerge imho.

Thank you I have tried the orange with mustard does not look right somehow. Would it look better like this for now in any of these combos ?

The bigger photo on the left looks best but I still prefer burnt orange.

BreviloquentBastard · 14/02/2023 12:04

I like the first setup, the flowery cushion is cute, not so much of a fan of the fluffy (?) white one.

Holmfirthrita · 14/02/2023 12:09

Other than the rug does this look better then

I think the burnt orange looks better, it warms the room up and looks good with the wooden furniture. It's more cosy.

LibertyLily · 14/02/2023 12:53

The burnt orange looks better, imho...but I also like the flowery lumbar cushion.

Holmfirthrita · 14/02/2023 15:05

thanks for all you comments . I have found these on next website . They are a textured larger size they do in ochre. Does anyone think these may look good with my plain ochre velvet cushions large at back smaller plain at front. Thought maybe 2 large at back and 1 in front 3 in total on sofa ?? Have I lost the plot??

I don’t think so. They are just more of the same op.

LibertyLily · 14/02/2023 17:56

No, despite them being textured they are too similar to the ones you already have.

Contrast is your friend!

Holmfirthrita · 14/02/2023 18:01

Can you suggest anything ?

Would the charcoal be a nice contrast

Burnt orange are the best but honestly I would also go for a splash of colour alongside. Everything is a bit dark and muted. Maybe gold and teal alongside?

Holmfirthrita · 14/02/2023 18:24

Tried a few more options as a last resort !

I think they all look fine.

if you want a change these velvet ones in teal are nice and would work well with the ochre ones.

or if all new, these blush bolsters would be nice with the teal

But honestly I think they look lovely as are.

An actual last resort or will you be back with the same handful of questions next week? I'm sorry but I don't understand why you've ignored all of the advice on ways to warm the room up and instead, keep obsessing about 3 or 4 cushions.

Kranke · 14/02/2023 22:45

i know cushions are a cheaper option, but with what you’ve probably spent, it would have been cheaper to get a new rug. You haven’t told us what you like. Have a look on Pinterest and Google images and work out what kind of look you’re going for. I can’t see any cushions working with the sofa unless you have rugs and throws.

google ‘dark grey leather sofa cushions’ and see if you like anything you see. Cushions won’t do anything as the sofa dominates as well as the rug. Pick whichever cushions you like, it’s not going to change the aesthetic dramatically.

Look at this

Ochre / mustard gets my vote. I’m really not keen on the darker orange.

Same. There was lots of great advice on the other thread about how to improve the room. To be honest whether you have orange or yellow or burgundy cushions isn't going to make a blind bit of difference.

Chasedbythechaser · 14/02/2023 23:44

The cushion combinations maeveiscurious suggested all look better than what you have.
I haven't read your previous thread and I'm not sure if you are looking for opinions on the rest of your room?
I'd change the curtains, and put light linen coloured floor length curtains up. I'd neutralised the sofa with the cushions (above). I'd choose a rug with a pattern with some colour (but not a strong garish colour) and then bring life to the room with green plants, books, a coffee table and lamps.

If you really dislike the sofas, you can buy sofa covers too!

Littleloveydovey · 15/02/2023 07:23

I do agree I’m afraid op. I am also unsure why you are so focused on your cushions and moving them about so much. As said, it all works and there is no real difference to the room whichever you pick.

it’s a lovely room, it does need a much bigger rug, which goes under both your sofas feet, in a warmer Colour.

you also don’t have to spend loads. Something like this could be lovely, add some nice teal and blush cushions, some plants, a couple of throws in shades of green and blush and it would change it up.

either way I think just pick some cushions and let that go now. x
