What curtain length for this window?

Child’s room, awkward shape and bed will be under the window across the width. Will have wooden blinds in the recess but would like to add blackout curtains. Do they need to be down to sill length only? Or past the overhanging sill? Can’t be too long due to bed underneath.

I would go floor length!

I’d have them just skimming the sill so when they’re closed you can see there’s a sill there – so the length looks purposeful and not random.

I'd go an inch or two below the sill.

Why not have a black out blind, no curtains?

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 12/02/2023 16:52

I'd just go for a blackout blind.

Didn’t go for roller blind as would rather a bit of privacy for preteen DD

Since you can’t have full length due to the bed I wouldn’t have curtains. Fit a Roman blind outside the recess and then you can either have a hidden blackout roller blind or slatted blind in the recess.

I wouldn't put a curtain on that window - it is too small. If the wall around it were clear you could have a wider pole and have wide, full-length curtains but as you can't have that with the furniture layout I would have no curtain at all. I would put privacy film on the lower pane (you can get some lovely designs) and a blind. If full blackout is a priority then Bloc blinds are good.

I'd go with curtains to the windowsill. I like the cosy feeling of curtains in a bedroom. Blinds feel a bit cold. You might want to think about just having one curtain as the window looks a bit narrow?
