Front door repaint?

I have the most gorgeous front door, I would like it stripping and painting.

So here comes a very stupid question; how does this work? I can’t be without a front door but to get it stripped and repainted is going to take longer than a day? I am guessing this is a daft question but just can’t work it out? Do they board the door up temporarily? How does it work?

Does the door really need stripping or just sanding to smooth old paint and kye the surface? Even if needs stripping, I'm sure it's possible to do with the door in situ, just going to be fiddly on the hinge side.
