Grey skirting, bannisters door frames and dado. Fab or naff?

So hallways and landing was thinking about painting the dado and bannisters a mid dark grey (not too dark) walls are currently light grey. Currently lots of big prints in colour frames so it doesn't just look grey.

So what do people think of painted skirting, bannisters etc. Feel like if we do skirting and dados then need to do door frames too? Fab or naff?

And if you've done it and have pics that would be great. Thanks

I like the idea of painted skirting (I started my own thread on it last week!!) but not sure on Grey. I’m erring towards this combination of colours, with the skirting and trim and my darkest wall in the dark green

Personally I think it would be a bit much. We are currently decorating our hall stairs and landing and will be having a grey bannister and feature wall, but I don't like grey everywhere.......it always makes me think 'this is how Eeyore would decorate'.

My sister has done this in her new home and I don't like it tbh

We have this - we're about to redo because it's time but imo it's not outdated yet - as long as you go for a graphite, really dark grey not a mid or light. I definitely wouldn't do the dado though - that would look a bit 80s.

And do the doors too - got to be emphatic and intentional!

Honestly depends on the house. This would amazing in some houses. Awful in others. You really have to work to your light levels, aspect, layout, style.

It is actually quite difficult I am finding to get right.

I like the shorting to either match the walls or a darker shade

minihitch · 04/02/2023 17:36

skirting!

I think skirting matching the wall colour is a nice look, but I'm not sure on a contrasting grey tbh. I agree I think it would probably look best with a really really dark grey.

Hayliebells · 04/02/2023 17:40

By matching, I mean the same btw.

Thanks everyone. Lots to think about. Think we are just going to do it. It's is a dark grey. We live in a victorian terrace and it's a bit quirky with a bit of character. If I hate it then will just have to redo it again. Looking forward to not having grubby finger marks on the bannisters and rails. Will still be there but at least I won't be able to see them

The Victorias had light ceilings, mid tone walls and dark woodwork so you're being very authentic to the period of your house. It'll look fab, I love the look.

Thanks, that's a really good point. Have got the paint how so no turning back
