Colour help for someone with no clue

I’m in the process of picking things for living room but my head is actually hurting with it. I just can’t visualise at all. Any help from those far better at this than me would be so appreciated.

Living room is 5x3.5m west facing floor to ceiling windows at one end, French doors into kitchen at other.

i have sofas (attached) already and don’t want to replace. I’ve ordered rug (attached) and have seen curtains in a burnt orange that I’m considering too.

I was thinking dark grey for carpet (out of necessity as current one was white and is now vile brown) and grey for walls. But I don’t know. I can’t pick the right shade and every time I look at grey carpets in store I literally go colour blind. Have some colours I like on punters (also attached)

Was thinking a kind of art deco/French old lady’s sitting room kinda vibe , a bit like the picture attached taken in IKEA. All fittings are gold, inc my beautiful gin trolley so that can’t change.

Any ideas?

You can just paint one side of the doors a colour and leave the other side white. I’ve done that in some room. So I would just paint the face of the door and leave the sides white. However, you need a steady hand. If you’re painting the walls you’ll need to do the woodwork. Or it will
look old and ruin your nice new room.

Oh I think this will be fab! The orange and blue are lovely together but agree you need warm neutrals like wood and oatmeal not grey. I think some tan leather would be great. A pouffe?

I would go for a warm neutral or natural colours, either for wall, floor and curtains- although you can have some textured curtains so it won't look that bland, but more interesting.

Then go for some bold/ jewel colour by adding accessories- cushions etc.

I would personally create some sort of eclectic/ vintage wall gallery with assorted golden frames, different shapes, size etc, just stick with the gold accent.

That’s exactly what I was thinking

Agree with the ideas already...oatmeal carpet, neutral walls (not grey!) - maybe something like natural calico

A chandelier would look fab

Yes to eclectic gallery wall with gold frames - include things like vintage mirror, barometer as well as pictures

That’s really helpful thank you

If you want an eclectic wall that will easily tranfer to your next house I'd make the decision now to not have matching frames. One of two golden frames in among other frame colours will link to your other golden furniture but make life easier in the future.

For painting doors you should paint the edge of the door the same colour as the side of the room it opens into. I'd go for the same wooden floor as you have next door so it flows.

Look on instagram or pinterest for navy sofas to give you an idea of what interior decoration combinations you like. Love the sofa BTW.

That’s super helpful thanks. I think I’ve binned the idea of flooring, as I’ve got some dark wooden furniture so light wood wouldn’t go and dark wood wouldn’t flow. Plus it’s quite a cold room so thinking carpet.

Def going with some mix match frames. Have also spied a floor length mirror which I love. Going to look at some carpets today as decorator hopefully coming in 2 weeks

I’m not keen on orange. One wall painted a terracotta/rusty shade of red would look fab and the rest of the walls gardenia. I painted my old living room this colour, it was lush, we had a navy sofa too. It looks fab with light, natural wood.
