Confused about new home set up

Hi all, posting on here rather than AIBU as I’m scared to! I really hope I get some replies or I will have to post there for the traffic.

im really confused about a lot of things in my new home. This one first: where the heck do I dry the dishes? In my old home we had like a metal area next to sink where I put the dish rack and put dishes to dry after washing. This house doesn’t have one. Pic attached: please help!

You can buy a unit to go on top of that area.

Can I @VigilanteShit thank you. So I can’t just pop a drying rack and use it without the metal thing can I?

no idea how old owners dried the dishes.

Did they have a dishwasher? So most things done in there and this for just bits?

Yes there’s a dishwasher. Tbh I hardly used it in old house just did things by hand

Of course you can. You put your drying rack on the surface on top of the grooves and they make sure the water drains into the sink, that's what they are for.

Homebew1 · 01/02/2023 09:50

Thank you @CatherinedeBourgh i was wondering about the grooves. I do everything by hand so maybe will be lots of water. I think I might order the one one vigilante suggested but in the mean time will just put my old rack there

The grooves is the area you put drying plates/cups etc. you can put a drying rack there… we have a Joseph one for a few bits but otherwise use dishwasher. Infact, we don’t even have the grooves now.

Caspianberg · 01/02/2023 10:19

You can just get a drying rack with tray under if you prefer

we don’t even have grooves now. New kitchen has none. Don’t miss at all. We use dishwasher 95% of things. And just wash something like a pan or chopping board up and straight away dry and put away. Stops clutter. dishwasher saves water compared to by hand

We have a silicone drying mat if we really need to dry extra by hand. stores under sink when not in use.

They have lots of various sized options of tacky with mats underneath if you really want one

Use your dishwasher! once you’ve got into the habit it’s a lifesaver. And then you can just pop a teatowel over those grooves for drying the few handwash bits and bobs.
