You haven’t seen an uglier bathroom than this one!

The toilet is so far under the eaves that only a child can sit on it!

Yes, that is a square bath (no vents or dehumidifier so is not used.

if you look closely at the ceiling tiles you might notice they are made of floppy plastic, the grouting was originally duct tape but I’ve peeled that off…

And, a lightbulb that flickers like a horror film and smells scarily dangerous!

I’ve finally saved enough money to deal with it, and the workman is popping round for a chat tomorrow, so I need some ideas!

Im hoping to bring the loo forward and 90 degrees to face the door, a false wall with maybe recessed shelves on the other side to use the lost space… Take out the bath and put the sink where it was.

The fun part is the decoration! This is the DCs loo (occasional guest use) so I can have a bit of fun here and would like some colour! I was wondering out terrazzo… would you tule the floor and the back wall in the same tile? Other ideas? I’m attaching a couple of pics from a tile shop I visited yesterday!

Why can’t you put a vent in ? It’s only a small pipe and it doesn’t make a hole of any substance in the roof. You might be able to put it in the wall. Wouldn’t you want a vent anyway if there is a loo? Because, you know, smells.

Ok @QuentininQuarantino I wasn’t talking about the title 🙄

I'm voting for wild tiles. Think 'jewel box toilet'. If you can't go wild in asmall room where you only spend a few minutes in where can you? When we bought our house the small second bathroom was painted magnolia and although the suite was new and functional the whole room felt offensively non-offensive. I found a beautiful (blue) wallpaper and decorative mirrror, painted the ceiling blue and it transformed the room. I like my main rooms minimal and enjoy the contrast in the small rooms.

Youre just looking at toilet & basin, yes? So no one is going to be in there long, and it’s near bedrooms so will be mostly used at night. Therefore Id want something that’ll feel comforting rather than energising.
So for me that’s be gentle round-y pattern (ie not too geometric and jaggy), maybe with olivey green & bamboo stuff. Or a drab pinky colour, with black. Basically, still a definite colour but muted sludgy tones rather than zingy.

😂 your bathroom belongs on 'terrible real estate photos'. I have no idea why people are being nasty to you about it. I do love quirky old rooms though.

I'm also voting for going crazy and as it's a small room, you won't need to buy loads of tiles! Harvey Maria does some funky patterned vinyl and lvt flooring that would look amazing in there. Embrace the quirkiness!

Maybe they are from Yorkshire, Murray!

Home Decoration would be a bit of a shit topic if everyone was thrilled with their homes! 😂

I have taken on board both schools of thoughts on the thread, and am waiting for a quote. The builders recommended bringing the back wall forward (so you can actually sit on the loo without twisting your neck) and a floating type toilet, using the other side for recessed shelving to make use of the space. The decoration plan is a terrazzo style ceramic tile, but with smallish flecks, and black taps, hardware etc. Then, depending on how it looks, either a very demure painted greige wall and ceiling, or if the space can take it, taking a stronger colour from the terrazzo tiles and going teal, or brick red or something.

It will be a couple of months but I will try and remember to update!

Personally I'd be wary of anything to visually overpowering in that small and unusual space - the bright graphic tiles could be too much.

Agree with this.

Hell no! That's the perfect space to unleash your wild, creative side imho....

Personally, I'd be going brighter/bolder or darker @QuentininQuarantino - there are so many gorgeous tiles, wallpapers and paint colours out there right now!

We bought our family bathroom tiles from Your Tiles - they have some amazing choices and not ridiculously expensive either.

QuentininQuarantino · 06/08/2023 11:02

@VinEtFromage well I got the quotes back and they were all in the 7-8000 region, so for now I’m just shutting the door and ignoring it! I was shocked by the price because it’s just a loo, and I have the big family bathrooms that need doing too so will have to prioritise them, but will have to look at a loan or something and as we’re on a variable mortgage it isn’t the best time to be doing that! Sorry for such a rubbish update…
