Ceiling light options / fittings

Our house is filled with awful light fixtures - the type that have little spotlights that blow easily. We want to change them but have no idea whether to go for a bog standard pendant cord and have the option of switching up shades wherever we feel like it, or buy a nice light that needs to be installed. I'm guessing that would require an electrician every time we wanted to change it? What do most people do? 🤷🏻‍♀️

We had trouble finding light fittings we actually like - have had house completely rewired as part of a renovation so starting from scratch with lighting. We didn't want spotlights or anything that would get dusty, and the ceilings are quite low so anything too dangly just wouldn't work.

In the end we've found fittings we like for kitchen and bathroom, everything else will just go on pendant with a shade. We'll live with it for a bit, if we spot something we like fitting-wise we'll think about getting them fitted.

We’ve gone for pendants mostly, so we can change out the shades when we want. But a few years ago we got an electrician to change the white plastic ones for nicer ones. Brass industrial style.
