Long worktop has the following:

Oil bottles / salt and pepper (beside cooker)
Kettle
Cookie jar
Toaster (4 slice)
Coffee machine
Pod holder
Bread bin
Kitchen roll holder
Sink tidy
[sink]
Decorative jam pots (beside bread board)
Knife Block
fish tank
Speaker thing

It's just so messy looking!!

Cookie jar
Pod holder
Jam pots
Can all go in a cupboard for starters.

I also don't see the need for bread bins either - put the bread in a cupboard,

Move the fish tank to the living room?

ramonaquimby · 15/01/2023 17:08

Oh that’s a lot on show. We’ve got the toaster, oil bottles, knife block and sink stuff all behind cupboards. We only have kettle and coffee machine out. Wine rack and a fish tank. Have a cupboard tidy/deck utter and you might make space?

watchfulwishes · 15/01/2023 17:08

Oil bottles / salt and pepper (beside cooker) - keep on nice tray
Kettle - keep
Cookie jar - cupboard
Toaster (4 slice) - keep
Coffee machine - keep
Pod holder - cupboard (or better still stop using as environmentally shite)
Bread bin - keep
Kitchen roll holder - cupcoard
Sink tidy - keep
[sink]
Decorative jam pots (beside bread board) - get rid
Knife Block - knives in drawer or magnetic wall thing
fish tank - don't replace the fish when they die?
Speaker thing - high small shelf?

Mamette · 15/01/2023 17:11

We have a 2-slice toaster
kettle
coffee machine

That’s it. Obviously other stuff gets put there in a transient way but nothing else “lives” there.

If it was up to me the kettle and toaster would also be gone but unfortunately DH and DC have a say 😂

Outfor150 · 15/01/2023 17:14

We have a kettle and a toaster on worktop.

We don’t own:
cookie jar
coffee machine
pod holder
bread bin
kitchen roll holder
jam pots
fish tank
speaker

We have:
Sink tidy -inside sink
Knives -inside drawer

UncleQuentinsWife · 15/01/2023 17:34

My kitchen roll is under my sink. What is a sink tidy? I've got a washing up brush with a sucker on (IKEA) which goes on the drawing board. Fairy liquid goes under the sink too.

Bread and cookie jar should be in a cupboard. And pods.

Eat the jam.

hopeishere · 15/01/2023 17:41

I think the cookie jar and pod thing are too tall for a cupboard. I do have another bread basket in a cupboard so I might just put it all I there. I hate the bread bin.

Sink tidy - a jar thing with the long brush and a scouring thing in it.

Jam pots could be moved.

A massive cupboard tidy and rearranging looms!!

I got a wall mounted kitchen roll holder

UncleQuentinsWife · 15/01/2023 19:13

Do you use the cookie jar? I'd get rid of the 'pod thing' and put the pods in something that does fit in the cupboard. I'm always cutting the bottoms off milk bottles to use in my cupboards.

Don't move the jam. Eat the jam.

itsmeagainagain · 15/01/2023 19:16

I’d also put the toaster in a cupboard. You probably use it once per day if that? If you have the room put in any easy access cupboard

itsmeagainagain · 15/01/2023 19:17

Can you relocate the fish tank?

TerraNostra · 15/01/2023 19:22

Put your knives on a magnetic strip inside one of your cupboard doors (if you have cupboards above the worktop).

Do you have any free wall space? I do agree that it’s much easier if oils are out and within east reach, but I keep all my oils on a little shelf above and to the left of the cooker.

The fish tank- what made you sacrifice valuable countertop space to that in the first place? Is someone a real fish fan, or was it a decor thing? I would have thought they were more suited to calm spaces than a busy kitchen.

if the jam pots are decorative then you must like them enough to want them in display.

Could a cupboard shelf height be changed to accommodate the cookie jar? Or ditch it and keep your biscuits in a shorter jar?

EspeciallyDetermined · 15/01/2023 19:25

We have the kitchen roll on a wallmounted holder (white walls and white holder so it blends in). Sharp knives on magnetic strips on the wall. Salt, pepper, oil etc in a cupboard above the main food prep work area. Tiny white Sonos speaker tucked in a corner. Everything that is out is either white, grey or silver to blend in. Apart from my big red stand mixer.

TheRookie · 15/01/2023 19:29

First and easiest thing to go is decorative jam!! I can't even picture a decorative jam display 🤣

pelargoniums · 15/01/2023 19:48

Oil bottles / salt and pepper (beside cooker) - cupboard

Kettle - keep but dream of budget for a hot water tap

Cookie jar - cupboard

Toaster (4 slice) - keep, reluctantly

Coffee machine - keep

Pod holder - cupboard

Bread bin - cupboard

Kitchen roll holder - get an under-cupboard holder thing or stop using it and use a cloth instead

Sink tidy - keep in the sink

[sink] - keep, obviously

Decorative jam pots (beside bread board) - I can’t picture this but bin or cupboard, bread board in the cupboard too

Knife Block - knives on a magnetic wall thing or in a drawer

fish tank - literally anywhere else

Speaker thing - necessary?

hopeishere · 15/01/2023 19:59

The first tank is quite small! It's like a half size one.

Photo of decorative jam pots!

I'm going to rearrange a cupboard and put the cookie jar in there. And move all the bread to the bread basket. I'll think about a magnetic strip for the knives and putting the kitchen roll in a cupboard.

I hate cluttered surfaces, here’s where all this is in our house…

Oil bottles / salt and pepper -
in a pull out cupboard beside oven
Kettle - on worktop
Cookie jar - biscuits in cupboard no jar needed
Toaster (4 slice) - on worktop
Coffee machine - on worktop
Pod holder - in cupboard above coffee machine
Bread bin - bread in cupboard no bread in
Kitchen roll holder - on worktop
Sink tidy - in cupboard under sink
Decorative jam pots (beside bread board) - jam in fridge, no decorative pots
Knife Block - on worktop
fish tank- n/a
Speaker thing - on an open shelf

UncleQuentinsWife · 15/01/2023 20:23

Ohhhh, I assumed the decorative jam pots would be jars of posh jam. Shock

Cinnamonandcoal · 15/01/2023 20:27

I am envious.
My worktop is generally covered in lego and kids art work - if I can keep it to kitchen stuff that's a win!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 15/01/2023 20:32

Olive oil should be kept in the dark, which is why the posh stuff comes in dark bottles, so shove that in a cupboard. Salt and pepper in the cupboard too? I got DS to make me a larder. I lost some work surface but the larder means I can shove loads in it and can see what's there. But putting the toaster in a cupboard is going too far!

ReindeerBelieve · 16/01/2023 20:44

My toaster(4 slice) lives in a bottom drawer - we don't use it every day but when we do use it it goes away pretty much straight away

GuyFawkesDay · 16/01/2023 20:47

We have kettle, coffee machine and utensil pot by cooker. Microwave. Everything else is away in drawers or cupboards

CoolShoeshine · 19/01/2023 21:35

get rid of knife block and store knives in cutlery drawer.
biscuits in a square tin in the cupboard.
I like the jam pots - could you put a narrow shelf up for them and other decorative bits?

User16458769 · 19/01/2023 21:41

I wouldn't put the kitchen roll in the cupboard in case you need it in a rush for a spillage

Shoemadlady · 19/01/2023 21:44

Fish tank on kitchen worktop? I'd have to get rid of that as they smell
